Sullivan, Fassbender, Laubinger And Ramstock Outlast Others At Wilmot

Wilmot Speedway, July 7, 2005 - Mike Sullivan (Trevor, WI) ran a flawless race to pick up his first feature victory in 2005 Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway.  Sullivan started the event on the outside of row two but moved to the top spot on lap two when he powered past Jimmy Muth Jr. (Greenfield, WI).  Scott Kuxhouse (Antioch, IL), who was racing in both the Modified and the Midwest Sprint Car Association (MSA) divisions, took over the second position from Muth on lap six and was the car to watch as Muth broke the left front bringing out the yellow on lap eight.  Current points leader Nick Simons (Genoa City, WI) also a man on a mission and took over third on lap ten.  Kuxhouse worked his way past Sullivan on lap 16 to take the lead and looked like he would run away with the event before being sidelined with mechanical problems on lap 19.  Sullivan was running second at the time Kuxhouse exited from the speedway and never looked back.  The Bodendorfer boys, Jeff (Waterford, WI) and Mike (Muskego, WI) managed to avoid any major contact and finished second and third respectively.

In a non-stop feature event in the Street Stock division, Bruce Laubinger picked up his second feature victory in 2005 and closed the gap slightly on points leader Jim Vandevere.  Vandevere held the lead from lap 6 through lap 14 when Laubinger used a brilliant move in turns three and four to make it past for the lead.  Laubinger went into the corner on the high side and as Vandevere moved up to block, Laubinger dove to the bottom and powered off the corner to take the lead going down the frontstretch.  Laubinger and Vandevere battled the final six laps but Laubinger picked up the win.

It took Brian Ramstock a while to get to the front, but once he got there he never let it go.  Ramstock started inside row two and took the lead on lap eight.  Ron Brannum was following Ramstock's exhaust and took third just as the lead changed hands.  Brannum moved past the number 12 car on lap 12 and set his sights on Ramstock.  Kurt Bores dropped the 12 another position on lap 14 but left the speedway with problems on lap 17 giving third back to the number 12.  Ramstock was never seriously challenged and pulled away for the win ending Brannum's two-week winning streak.  John Draper had a good night and finished fourth and Randy Reed rounded out the top five.

Lance Fassbender really had his car hooked up at the Wilmot Speedway on Saturday.  Fassbender was never challenged as he picked up his first feature win since September 21, 2002.  On the opening lap of the Feature the red flag waved as Joe Wipperfurth, Jerry Ski, Dale Bodden and Danny Schlafer all tangled in turn two. None of the drivers were injured, but only Schlafer was able to restart at the rear of the field. Troy Hepfner grabbed the early restart lead with Fassbender giving chase. Fassbender slipped by Hepfner with just three laps in the books and Scott Semmelmann had advanced to third. By the fifth lap, Semmelmann moved up to second only to have Tim Haddy charge past from his seventh row starting spot. Several mid-race cautions kept the field bunched up. Rob Pribnow had a good run having moved up to the fourth spot with Chris Wiser and Scott Kuxhouse giving chase. Lap 16 saw Haddy suffer a rare spin that cost him his second place spot, moving Semmelmann, Pribnow, Wiser and Schlafer into the top five. Semmelmann held on to the third spot, Wiser slipped past Pribnow in the closing laps for the fourth spot.

Austin Semmelman - 11 (Brookfield, WI) was the Junior Fan of the Week.  This coming Saturday, July 9, the IRA Sprint Cars make their second of three appearances at the Wilmot Speedway.  They'll be joined by the IMCA Modifieds and Street Stocks.  For more information contact the track office at 262-279-3892.
