Vanderver Wins 4th, Stalter 1st, Simons And Brannum Other Winners

Wilmot Speedway, June 25, 2005 - Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway, fans witnessed both extremes of the winners spectrum.  Jim Vandervere won his fourth feature in five weeks in 2005 while Ryan Stalter (Ashippon, WI) picked up his first ever Wilmot feature win.  Nick Simons and Ron Brannum were feature winners in the other two divisions on a night when the drivers praised the track preparation and conditions.

The Street Stock feature had all the elements of an exciting race starting with Chris Plasky losing a tire on lap four bringing out the red flag.  Bruce Laubinger (Genoa City, WI), who stole an exciting heat race victory earlier in the evening from 13-year old Ryan Marshall (Kansasville, WI), looked strong and moved into the third spot on lap six.  Meanwhile, Vandervere was charging to the front and took the lead on lap 14.  Vandervere was starting to pull away when David Grenlund (Sharon, WI), who was running second at the time, lost his wheel on lap 15.  Adam Adschier flipped his car on the backstretch and landed upside down creating a two-lap shootout between Vandervere and Laubinger.  Laubinger was unable to make a successful pass and Vandervere picked up his fourth win in five nights and extended his points lead.

Ryan Stalter picked up his first ever Wilmot feature win in a reduced field of Sportsman competitors.  Stalter beat out Jason Gaudynski and Jeff Graf for the win and excited the fans with several donuts at the completion of his victory lap a la Nextel Cup winners.

The 2005 points leader in the Modified division, Nick Simons, put some more distance between himself and the rest of the Modified drivers after picking up a win in a very exciting feature event.  Last week's feature victor Jimmy Muth Jr. broke the right front on lap one coming out of turn four bringing out the first yellow of the night.  After Jim Morrison and Jason Hyerdall got hooked together on the frontstretch, Mike Sullivan took the lead on lap three and looked like the car to beat.  B.G. Wood brought out another yellow on lap seven as mechanical problems caused him to slow to a halt in turn four bunching up the field again.  Three and four-wide action all through the field made it difficult to find the best battle to watch on the restart and ensuing laps.  Something had to give and Lee Tibbitts tangled with the lapped car of Jason Therkelsen on lap 15.  Working his way to the second position, Simons took the lead on lap 16 following the yellow for Tibbitts.  Hyerdall brought out the final caution when he spun with two laps remaining setting up a two-lap shootout between Simons and Sullivan.  However, while lining up the cars for the restart, track officials spotted something hanging from the rear of Sullivan's number 16 and had him pull to the infield ending his night.  Simons went on to win the event with Jeff Bodendorfer, Jr. (Waterford, WI) edging out Scott Kuxhouse for the runner-up spot.

Ron Brannum found himself in a familiar position at the conclusion of the Mini-Sprints feature event.  Brannum, the 2005 Wilmot points champion for the Mini-Sprints, beat John Draper and Randy Reed across the start-finish line in a clean race.  Fourteen yr-old Jessica Brannum (McHenry, IL), a former go-kart champion, had a good night and finished sixth behind Kurt Bores and Will Archdale.
