Schenk Gets First Wilmot Win In 2004

(Wilmot, WI, June 26, 2004) Doug Schenk took control early on in the MSA 360 Sprint Feature event Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway and never looked back.  The current 2004 points leader took the lead from the drop of the green and was pulling away from the rest of the field when Danny Schlafer and Scott Conger tangled in turn 2.  After the event got restarted, Schenck made a shambles of the rest of the field and cruised to an easy victory increasing his points lead over Lance Fassbender.
 
Jim Morrison picked up his second feature win of the 2004 season over Elmer Everman and Nick Simons in the IMCA Modified division.  Simons held down the top position early in the event until a yellow on lap 10.  That allowed Morrison and the rest of the field to bunch up behind the leader.  Morrison took the lead on lap 12 and Everman and Simons battled it out for second and third spots and never really challenged Morrison for the win.
 
In the Sportsman division, Don Sorce Jr. became the fourth different winner in four feature events.  Dave Gorny led the event until lap nine when Sorce was able to power past him using the low groove.  With Gorny trying to make the high groove work, Sorce was able to pull away slightly and held on for the win.
 
Jan Vandermeer made it two for two in the Street Stock division.  Vandemeer led from flag to flag picking up his second feature win in two tries.
 
The feature winner in the visiting Mini-Sprint division was Tom Brown.
 
Erica Camp was the Junior Fan of the Week and Rachel Brom won a gift certificate to Antioch Cyclery.  Next Friday night, the AMA motorcycles and quads invade the Wilmot Speedway and on Saturday, the night's events will include the IMCA Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks.  The Street Stock division will feature their "paint to pass" rules for the evening.
