Miles Battles For Third Legend Win At Mile Summer Shootout By John Wiedemann – www.racingwisconsin.com Milwaukee – August 16, 2006 – After over a month of no racing at the Milwaukee Mile, the Summer Shootout racers returned to the Mini Mile ready for action. Ryan Miles and Kyle Jusits returned to victory lane in the Legends and Bandolero divisions respectively. Michael Bilderback took home the Allison Legacy win and Mike Piecko, Sr. grabbed his second Thunder Roadster win in a row. The Thunder Roadster division remained a battle between the father/son combination of Mike Piecko, Jr. and Sr. After Mike, Jr. took the heat race, Mike Sr. knew he would have to figure something out to get by the kid. Unfortunatly for Junior, a broken shifter midway through the race took the lead and a shot at the win away. Mike Sr. reluctantly took the win, wishing he could have battled his son to the finish line. Michal Bilderback decided to run double duty to give Nick Beinlich someone to race with in the Allison Legacy series. After running nose to tail in the heat race, the two took to the track in the feature. Beinlich took the lead going through the first two turns and stretched it out when Bilderback spun the car around coming out of turn four. Bilderback caught back up to Beinlich with a few laps to go and the two battled the rest of the way. When Beinlich slipped a little high in turn one, Bilderback took advantage. With two laps to go Bilderback reassumed the lead and went on to win the race with Beinlich in tow. Recent Bandolero hotshoe, Alex Arelano won the first heat race but had problems in the second causing the crew to work overtime to get the car ready for the feature. Arelano’s issues opened the door for the other racers to move to the front of the pack. Aaron Moyer has quietly been improving and this week took his turn at the front. After finishing third in the first heat race, Moyer jumped to the lead in the second heat race and started to pull away. It looked like Moyer was going to run away with the win when the dreaded caution flag flew twice for Arelano’s issues. On the second restart, Moyer pulled away and again was looking for nothing but the checkers. Again, the yellow flag flew to bunch up the field for a final restart. This time Blake Brown drove his car to the inside as Moyer slid high through the first turn. Moyer tried in vain to get the spot back down the backstraight but the lead position and win belonged to Brown. Moyer took the lead early in the Bandolero feature. Again, Brown battled to the front and grabbed the position away on the third lap. While the front pack ran laps off the board, Kyle Jusits was moving up from his last place starting spot. After being away from victory lane the last three events, Jusits wanted another victory badly. As the white flag flew, Jusits had worked his way past Moyer and placed his Bando on Brown’s back bumper. Jusits worked the low lane through turns one and two and took the lead down the backstraight. Brown tried to catch Jusits in the last turns but it was not to be. Justis took the win, his fourth in the series this year. Brown crossed the line in second followed by Moyer. Arelano recovered from his problems to finish fourth and Jesse Bernhagen took fifth. Curt Gnatzig started the Legends feature on the pole after a win and second place in the heat races. Gnatzig had the lead early but a spin in the third turn dropped him all the way to the back of the pack. Ryan Miles assumed the lead followed closely by Michael Bilderback and Lyle Kuklinski. The front pack ran away nose to tail for the mid portion of the race. Bilderback was waiting and looking for the chance to take the lead and made his move in the first turn, driving underneath Miles. Two laps later, Miles returned the favor and took the lead back in the same spot. In the meantime, Kuklinski and a very fast Gnatzig had moved into position right behind the leaders. All four drivers had their cars on the edge through the final turns but the positions did not change. Miles took the win followed bumper to bumper by Bilderback, Kuklinski and Gnatzig. Two birthdays were celebrated this week as both Michael Bilderback and Kyle Jusits turned fifteen years old this week. The young guns of this series are starting to make their marks on other tracks in the area. These drivers also compete at the Rockford Speedway and the Lake Geneva Raceway. Michael Bilderback went out and won the trophy dash in his first late model race at Lake Geneva and Nick Beinlich has been running late models as well.
