Oregon, WI (Friday, July 2, 2010)- John Baumeister Jr. won the Big 8 Series Late Model 48 lap feature tonight in front of a crowd of 4,000 fans who witnessed another outstanding fireworks display compliments of ThunderCat. Also picking up feature wins were John Wood (ASA Trucks), Chad Knaus (Club LaMark Hobby Stocks), and Kyle Smith (International Four Cylinders).

John Wood Wins in ASA Trucks

John Wood edged his brother Jerry by 0.098 seconds to capture the 40 lap feature for the ASA Trucks in one of the most exciting truck races in MIS history.

Sixteen trucks took the green flag led by Tom Roney and Vince Wilkensen with Wilkensen jumping out to the early lead before the caution flag waved after the first lap for debris on the track.

When the race restarted Wilkensen would continue to lead followed by Roney and Camden Murphy before the caution came out again on lap 3 for two separate incidents involving Roney (mechanical) and Tom McCardle (contact with the wall).

With caution flags counting, Wilkensen remained the leader with Murphy up to second followed by Bill Collins, John Wood, and Conrad Jorgenson. On lap 15 Murphy and Collins would go side by side for second with the youthful Murphy able to hold onto the number two position. On lap 18 John Wood was up to third and looking for more as he followed Murphy past Wilkensen coming out of turn four. Murphy would lead for one lap before surrendering the top spot to John Wood on lap 19 while headed into turn three.

Murphy would have his hands full keeping the second position as Conrad Jorgenson would sneak down to the inside on lap 21 and move into second. The race would remain green for two more laps when a spin on lap 23 brought out the caution. The double file restart would find John Wood on the inside and Jorgenson on the outside. The two would race side by side around Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile with would finally gaining a clear advantage on lap 27.

Another caution for a spin set up another double file restart on lap 29. This time Jorgenson would hang back on the outside trying to build momentum that never came as Wood vaulted out to the lead and Jorgensen dropped all the way to fifth. This allowed Jerry Wood and Tom McClintock to move up to second and third place respectively.

The race's final caution came out for a spin on lap 35 setting up an all Wood front row for the restart. When the green flag waved again, the Wood brothers would find themselves fighting it out side by side. Not to be outdone, McClintock was up to join them and it quickly became a three wide race. With one lap to go the brothers were side by side as McClintock dropped back a truck length. But coming out of turn four on the last lap John gained the upper hand as he edged ahead to pick up the victory. Jerry Wood finished second followed by McClintock, Jorgenson, and Collins.

Wood set fast time with a lap of 18.618 and along with his brother Jerry won the heat races.

"There's nothing better than this in the world. To finish first and second with my brother Jerry and to have Trackside Charities making a donation for cancer research in honor of my win is just something really special," said John Wood from victory lane.

A Return to Victory Lane for Chad Knaus

Chad Knaus picked up his second win of 2010 as he won the 12 lap feature for the Club LaMark Hobby Stocks.

Mike Storkson and Scott Luck led the field to the green flag and fought it out for the first lap before Luck gained the advantage for the lead. But Knaus was not about to settle for watching from the pack and made his move to the lead on the second lap and cleared Luck coming out of turn 4.

Knaus would build up a multi-car length advantage over the next couple of laps before Luck would close the gap on lap 5. Behind Luck, Brad Luck and Don Fassett were trading places in their battle for third.

Out front Knaus slowly put some distance between himself and Luck and by lap 8 the advantage was two car lengths. Knaus would never be challenged the rest of the way as he cruised to victory lane. Scott Luck would finish second followed by Fassett, Brad Luck, and Terry Ciano Jr.

Brad Luck set fast time with a lap of 21.873 and Knaus picked up the heat win.

Kyle Smith Captures International Checkered Flag

Kyle Smith was victorious in the 15 lap feature for the International Four Cylinders who were making their first appearance on Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile in 2010.

Fifteen cars answered the call for the feature with Jim Pankow and Jason Kubicz leading the way to the green flag. The action was wild from the start as Kubicz took the early lead. Soon it was a four car breakout between Chad Olds, Eric Connell, and Gary Stark.

Connell would take the lead on lap 3 when he dropped to the low side of Connell coming out of turn two. Stark would get by Kubicz on lap 4 for second place. Connell continued his leading ways with Smith gaining speed with each lap and moving into third place on lap 6.

On lap 7 Stark was ready to challenge Connell for the lead and the two raced side by side with Stark trying to find room on the inside. It took two laps, but Stark would eventually get the lead on lap 9 clearing Connell on the back shoot.

But Connell and Smith were not about to sit back and follow the leader and on lap 10 Smith would motor his way past Stark coming down the front stretch to take the lead. Stark would hold his ground until losing power on lap 12 and pulling into the infield. From here on out it was all Smith who took the checkered flag followed by Connell, Stephen Scheel, and Mike Lambert.

Lambert set fast time with a lap of 22.959 with heat wins going to Ashley Smith and Kyle Smith.
