Tilleda Thunder On Ice Drivers Are All Winners

All I can say is wow! The weather and the racing was awesome with the return of the RWD Studded class running today. Reed Luepke and his family came out to take in some racing and to help get Reed's mind off other things. At the driver's meeting Reed and his family were presented with a check for $1000.00 that was raised on Reed Luepke day a couple weeks ago. The drivers gave up their payout that day, 50/50 raffle funds, the club kicked in some money and a couple of other large donations all added to the total money raised, all I can say is it was a great effort by all involved and you should all be proud for your kindness!

FWD Studded feature found Tony Everhart on the pole with Daryl Erickson along side. Everhart took a quick lead with Erickson running second. Clint Forstner was running the high side picking off cars one at a time. By lap four he would find his way past Everhart bringing Erickson with him. A few lap later with Erickson running second got a litle nudge from Jimmy Prey and ended up on the inside bank. The red flag would come out to get him out of the bank and re-set the field. Prey was charged with the yellow and sent to the rear and Erickson got his spot back. On the re-start "Chucky would check out and set sail for his fifth win in the class. Erickson would hold off the charges from Stueck to finish in the runner up spot with Everhart and Prey rounding out the top five.

Next to roll on the track was the FWD Non-Studded cars with a few new drivers showing up giving us a total of fourteen cars to take the green. Cody Bierman would set the pace with Brad Wedde on the outside. Wedde would find the front as "The Kid" Josh Jolitz would hound him for a few laps before taking his turn at the lead. Point leader B.J. Giese was battling further back with Carl King among others. Giese had his work cut out for him today as he had to fight for every spot. He finally got to Jolitz and worked him high and low for a few laps before getting by with three to go. But "The Kid" would not give up as the two battled for the top spot for the final two laps. At the checkers it was Giese holding on for the win over Jolitz by less than a car length. King would end up third followed by Tom Brandt and Dusty Grall.

Today would have the first RWD Studded feature of the season. With only two cars in the class and winning his heat race Nate Michonski would get the pole position and Craig "Pugs" Wildenberg would start on the outside. These cars with their 1-7/8" razor sharp cleats on all four tires they can really tear up the track. Fifteen laps with these guys take only about five minutes to run at very high speeds. Michonski driving one of these high powered machines on the ice for the first time would take off from the start and never look back as he would hold off Wildenberg for his first win.

With a few no-shows today only eleven RWD Non-Studded drivers would be on hand today. Brandy Moede starting on the knob would have Kyle Lemke on his outside for the start. Les Slater and Travis Verg would show their muscle early moving into the second and thirds spots behind Moede early with Pete Forstner giving chase. But like in the earlier race Clint "Chucky" Forstner would be moving to the front running the "cushion" and getting to the front on lap five. Dan Michonski was working his way to the front too from his back row starting spot. As all the cars were doing battle for position "Chucky" was catching the lapped car and Michonski had moved into second. At the finish it would be C. Forstner picking up his second feature, Michonski in the runner up spot followed by Justin Kraeger, Moede and Mel Westphal making up the top five.

Racing continues every Saturday at 1:00pm through February. Saturday March 6th has been added as a "Special" non-points money race.
