Angels Fly Over State Park Speedway As We Dedicate This Race For Flip Merwin

"If your happy let your face know". Yes, as Flip was looking down on
us this evening, 19 cars joined us in the Super Late Model Division to Race in
Flip's name. This 40 lap feature started Merrill's #76 Jason Weinkauf, who
took off like a rocket from the start of the race. Two laps into the race
Weston's #2 Clint Sillars had trouble retiring him for the evening. Weinkauf
was up front all through the race, but Wausau's #40 Jeremy Lepak ended his
party when he took over on lap 25. Lap traffic was a problem for the leaders.
Lepak held on for the win, Second went to the #76 of Jason Weinkauf and third
went to Wausau's #02 fast timer, Jesse Haase. Wausau's #1, Kurt Guralski who
was strong all night, worked himself up to fourth, but cut a tire as he hung
on to take eighth place. Jeremy Lepak dedicated this race to his
Grandma, Mary Ellen Volm, who passed away last Thursday. Mary was a very
dedicated & loyal race fan of State Park Speedway and supported Jeremy
through out his racing career and now continues to be his guardian angel.
Seventeen cars competed for 40 laps in the Mid-State Touring Series (Central
Wisconsin Late Models or also known as the Limited Lates). Wausau's #05
Paul Block and Wausau's #82 Travis Dodson led the competers to the green flag.
On the first lap, Dodson lost control of his machine bringing out the first
caution. Two racers got together in this mayhem Wausau's #2 Travis
Weisenbeck and Wausau's #28 Justin Switlick. Weisenbeck's evening was over,
but Justin Switlick was okay, but continued without a front end. When we went
back racing on Lap 10, Wausau's #40oz Jeremy Switlick passed Merrill's #20
Mark Sherfinski for the lead. Switlick had a great lead going until Wausau's
#44 Justin Woller spun out Wausau's # 66 Wayne Lodholz. This made the race a
10 lap shoot out. Switlick again built up a nice lead on the second place car
but a caution came out again when Woller spun out on his own on the front
stretch. With laps winding down, it was all Jeremy Switlick as he held on
taking the checkered flag for the win. Second went to Cambridge #97 Jim
Jarlsburg and third went to Wausau's #70 Neil Knoblock.
Westboro's #60 Jim Annala & Appleton's #74 Brandon Blasche led the street
stocks to the green flag for their main event. Clintonville's #08 Mike
Kasperek took the lead over from Annala on lap 6. Wausau's #29 Doug
Herbst followed Kasperek on his back bumper. Kasperek & Herbst ran door
handle to door handle for several laps when Herbst took over the top
spot. Kasperek gave it all he had, but Herbst prevailed with the Feature
win. Second went to Kasperek with third going to Marathon's #7 Brian Witberler.
The Mini Cup front row in their feature this evening was made up by a Father
& Son Team of Tripoli's #16 Nick Krueger and his father, #6 Mark Krueger.
The #16 machine had a nice lead built up, until Wisconsin Dells #24 Steve
Dorko spun out in corner 2 bringing out the caution. On the restart,
back racing with us this evening, Schofield's #70 Kyle Kluetz became our
leader as he went on to win his first feature of the season in his new car
compliments of Mr. Tasty, Joel Schulz. Second went to Dorko and third went to
Downtown Baraboo, Randy Braun driving the #8 for the evening (#8 was formally
driven by deceased Chris Hoen - Mosinee) Kyle wants to especially thank
Joel for letting him borrow his car for the season.
Cenex Mini Stock Feature was the last & final feature of the
evening. A major wreck started off this feature, when Mosinee's #16
Jeremy Behr tangled with Wausau's Jeff Spatz also collecting Rudolph #0 Keith
Wirtz & #62 Grandpa Bob Dalsky. Spatz & Dalsky was wrecked and
not able to compete. Wausau's #15 Doug Adams inherited the lead.
On the restart, Wausau's #18 Dylan Hockin passed Adams for the top spot, also
passing Adams with the banged up racecar was Keith Wirtz. Wirtz challenged
Hockin on the last lap, but Hockin came out victorious. Second went to
Adams and third went to Wirtz.
