Bennish Dedicates His Feature Win To His Father
On State Park Speedway's Pepsi 35th Season Opener

This evening's action started with 2 neighbors competing in the Central
Wisconsin Late Model Feature. Making up the front row was Abbotsford's
#21 Robby Bunkelman & Dorchester's #64 Larry Olson. Bunkelman pulled
away at the start with Marathon's #87 Brandon Feit knocking on his back door
for several laps. As those two drivers battled for the top position,
this brought Wausau's #70 Neil Knoblock & Gleason's #03 Bo Bennish closer
to the front. On Lap 17, Bennish accumulated the lead with Knoblock
right behind him in second. On lap 15, caution came out when Olson lost
control on the back stretch. On the restart, Bennish checked out from
the rest of the field, but his big lead was taken away when Feit spun out in
corner 2. This made this race end up in a 5 lap dash to the end.
Coming in first, was Bennish, a close second was Knoblock, and third went to
Merrill's #20 Mark Sherfinski. Bo Bennish dedicated this Feature Win to
his Father, Del Bennish, who lost his life last November in an explosion.
Nawrocki rocks the Street Stock Division as he started from the back and
worked his way up to the front in their 25 lap feature event. The green
flag was waved on this event as Irma's #20 Joe Monti & Tripoli's #60 Jim
Annala set the pace for the start of this race. Monti led this race for
10 laps, till Nawrocki passed him in the upper groove of the racetrack to
slide by to gain control of the lead. Nawrocki was
victorious with Monti coming in second and Annala coming in third.
Tonight, we welcomed several new drivers to the Mini Cup Division.
Wisconsin Dells #70 John Jump (#2 Jake Jump's Father), Wisconsin Dells
#24 Steve Dorko and Tripoli's #6 Mark Krueger. Seven cars competed in
this feature, with l lap into the race, Dorko spun out in corner 3 bringing
out the first caution. Raskie was sharp on the point as he took over the
lead from Krueger on lap 8, but a horrifying crash occurred on lap 9 as thee
#70 machine of John Jump tangled with downtown Baraboo's #5 Randy Braun
hitting the corner 2 wall wrecking both machines putting an end to the
feature. The race was scored with Phillips's #31 Trevor Raskie as the winner,
second went to Jake Jump and Mark Krueger was scored third.
Rookie, Auburndale's #4Z Adam Eckes & Wausau's #13 Jenny Nitzsche led the
Cenex Mini Stock to the beginning of this feature. Eckes held the lead for two
laps until he drove in corner 4 too hard giving the lead to Nitzsche.
Five laps later, the Auburndale's #3 Kevin Eckes (Adam's Father) passed
Nitzsche for the top spot. With 5 laps left in the race, Marathon's #22
Greg Blount took over & dominated the rest going onto winning his first
feature this season. Second went to Kevin Eckes and third went to Mosinee's
#88 Dale Louze.

us celebrate State Park Speedways 35th race season as a sponsor, along with
Sue's Divine Travel (Wausau) & State Park Speedway. Yes this year, a
NASCAR Trip Package will be given away at the end of this race season to a
lucky qualifier, in honor of Phil & Helen Bickley's 35th race
season. Each night, 35 names will be drawn out of the box and saved till
the last night of racing when a winner will be announced. This
package is for 3 nights/4 days double occupancy and includes air
transportation from Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee; motel accommodations
at Chapparal Suites in Scottsdale, Arizona includes full breakfast every
morning and a happy hour every night. Plus 2 tickets to Saturday's Busch

transportation to and from the racetrack for both days. Also each night,
Pepsi will give 1 twelve pack away to a winner drawn nightly.
I also want to mention a speedy recovery to our flagman, Randy Buchberger who
had a pacemaker put in this past Monday and welcome Mike Kleman who filled his
shoes while Randy is recovering. Next week, its NTC Night with special
guests, IMCA oldtimers and Legends who will be competing. In two weeks,
its the 2nd Annual Flip Merwin Memorial Race as the Super Late Models will be
joining us
