Knoblock, Nawrocki, Blount, and Raskie Crowned Season Champs!!!

Tonight marked the end of our 34th year of racing here at State Park
Speedway. With a lot of consistant racing this year, three of our four
divisions had their champions already decided. The lone division to be
decided was the Late Models, which was still up for grabs.
The feature in the Central Wisconsin Late Model division saw #17 Mike
"Louie" Merriam and #64 Larry Olson starting on the pole.
Louie would take the early lead over Olson. But with seven laps in the
books, #23 Chad Evenson and #64 Olson would get together on the front stretch
heading into corner one. This wreck would collect a number of cars
including #03 Bo Bennish, #32 Lyle Nowak, #44 Justin Woller, and #21 Robby
Bunkelman. Bunkelman and Woller would be victims of this wreck and
retire for the night.
On the restart, #17 Merriam would lead the field to the green. But #14
Wayne Breitenfeldt would quickly come up on Merriam and get out in front,
building himself a sizeable lead. The first wreck would claim another
car, as the point's leader #32 Nowak would leave the track with 19 laps
left. Breitenfeldt's lead would disappear as the second caution came out
with 16 laps to go. This caution was caused by the #66 Brent Zastrow who
was flagged for "unnecessary roughness" with the #03 and put to the
back. Breitenfeldt would lead the field to the restart green and hold on
to lead a few more until #70 Neil Knoblock passed with 13 laps
remaining. Knoblock would not be challenged and would cruise to the
checkered flag. Breitenfeldt would take second and #58 Jody Benson took
third. After passing post-race inspection, it was determined that
Knoblock was your 2003 State Park Speedway Late Model Champion.
The Street Stock feature saw #79 Adam Jennejohn and #01 David Lashua start
tonight's 25-lap race. Lashua would be the early leader. #06 Andy
"Black Bart" Bartelt would stick his fender right up along side of
Lashua but Dave would have none of that, holding the lead for almost half the
race. Bart would eventually get passed Lashua with 13 to go, but his
buddy #2T Tim Nawrocki was right on his rear bumper. Tim would look to
the inside but a lap car changed his mind. That same lap car allowed #7
Brian Witberler to catch up. He would pass Nawrocki for second and set
his sights on Bart. Witberler would get a lock on his target and pass
with 6 to go. The caution flag would come out as #29 Dustin Ochodinicky
would spin in corner four with the help of #3 Kevin Teske. During the
caution, Teske and #60 James Annala would play a little bumper tag. Both
gentlemen would earn themselves the black flag, ending their night.
Witberler would lead the restart and go on to win tonight's feature.
Second went to Nawrocki with third going to Bart. Nawrocki took home his
third track championship from State Park Speedway.
The pole was made up of #77 Randy Luedtke and #13 Jenny Nitzsche in tonight's
Cenex Mini Stock Feature. Just one lap in, #47 Jeff Spatz would slam the
wall in corner one with a little help from #29 Chad Dietsche. That would
abruptly end the night for Spatz. Luedtke would lead the field to the
restart green. He would lead the first restart lap but #11 Nate Geib
would make his way to the front with 17 to go. Geib would build up a
good lead but #0 Keith Wirtz would hunt him down and take over the top spot
with eight to go. No one would challenge Wirtz and he would go on to
take the checkered flag. Geib would follow in second and Dietsche would
work his way up to edge out #15 Doug Adams for third. #22 Greg Blount
would take home his first track championship. Interviewed after the
night, Blount said, "finally, after all these years!!!"
#6 Mark Krueger and #5 Randy Braun started on the pole for tonight's Mini Cup
Feature. #70 Kyle Kluetz and #31 Trevor Raskie would start in the last
row but make their way to the front to lead the first lap. Kluetz and
Raskie would pull away with Kluetz in the lead. Caution would come out
when Braun spun it around on the front stretch. With 8 to go, the race
restarted with Kluetz still in the top spot. Once again, Kluetz and
Raskie would build a huge lead. Kluetz would beat out Raskie for the
checkered flag, but Raskie won the war. Raskie finished second tonight
followed by #16 Nick Krueger. Raskie would win his second season
championship in a row.
Gracing our track tonight was the Legend division once again. #72 John
Burgess and #4 Eric Lokemoen lead the 20-lap field of 7 to the green.
Lokemoen would be the official leader of lap one but #14X Dan McGiveron would
take over just two laps in. #96 Jay Rickert would be all over McGiveron
racing him side-by-side. Rickert would finally pass McGiveron with nine
laps left. Also passing McGiveron was #81 Russ Weiler and #01 Elliot
Weiler. Rickert would build a lead only to see it evaporate as the
caution came out with four to go because of a muffler on the track. The
owner of the muffler was #81 Russ Weiler. This put him to the back of
the pack. The last four laps would be a shoot out between Elliot and
Jay. But Elliot would spin coming out of corner four, collecting
McGiveron. Russ would sneak by to steal second followed by Lokemoen in
third.
State Park Speedway would like to congratulate all division champions from
2003.
