Veterans Flex Muscles On Way To Winner's Platform

Tonight's Late Model Division saw Abbotsford's #21 Robby Bunkelman start on the pole of the 30-lap feature along side Birnamwood's #17 Mike "Louie" Merriam. Bunkelman took the early lead, but six laps in, Wausau's #14 Wayne Breitenfeldt would pass for the lead. Breitenfeldt would dominate the race, opening a sizeable lead, while the rest of the field battled each other. Bunkelman continued in second until Wausau's #70 Neil Knoblock passed him with three laps remaining. Knoblock would charge toward Breitenfeldt but would run out of laps as Breitenfeldt took the checkered flag. Knoblock would take second followed by Bunkelman in third.
The Street Stock Feature saw 13 cars start the 25-lap race led by Tomahawk's #79 of Scott Welch and Merrill's #4 of Dave Wendorf. Marathon's #21 Andy Witberler broke an
axle while competing in the dash and was unable to participate in this evening's events.
Racing was tight, lap after lap, it was on the third lap, when Weston's #79 Adam Jennejohn looped it in corner 2 bringing out tonight's first caution. Wendorf would lead the restart but Marathon's #7 Brian Witberler would pass him for the lead with 20 laps to go. Witberler would open throttle & cruise to his first feature win this season at State Park Speedway. Wausau's #2T Tim Nawrocki would take second followed by Wendorf in third.
Wausau's #13 Jenny Nitzsche & Wausau's #57 Shawn Teske would make up the front row in tonight's Cenex Mini Stock Feature. Before getting the first lap in, Hatley's #29 Chad Dietsche spun around causing a total restart. Wausau's #47 Jeff Spatz would
experience trouble with his car during this caution causing him to retire for the evening.
Nitzsche of course started the restart and gain a nice lead but then disappeared as
Wausau's #15 Deven Adams got tapped & turned in corner 2. Hamburg's #14 Amanda
Schara almost T-boned Adams in the drivers door but ended up just barely tapping him.
Nitzsche, would once again start this event with 16 laps to go, but with 13 laps to go, Wausau's #15 Doug Adams would pass Nitzsche for the lead. His reign on top would
last for two laps, as Dietsche blew by him on the outside taking the lead. Marathon's #22
Greg Blount was close behind Dietsche and with 6 laps to go would edge him at the line.
Blount & Dietsche would continue to race close side by side going back & forth, just like an accordion, one would be ahead, and then the other one would be. Blount would prevail taking another checkered flag, adding another feature win to his career. Coming in second would be Dietsche and Doug Adams came in third. The Luedtke's, Randy being from Mosinee & Curt is from Wausau, sure had their share of problems this evening, as #77 Randy Luedtke left the race track during practice, went home to fix it, came back to the race track only to have something break again, and once again left the racetrack, Randy then came back to enjoy the races as a spectator in the crowd. Now, #51 Curt Luedtke, has his share too, someone tapped Curt during the heat race and would put him in the back stretch wall but was able to make a few laps during the feature. Hope the two have better luck next week.
It was all K's tonight,as Tripoli's #16 Nick Krueger & Schofield's #70 Kyle Kluetz started
our Mini Cup Feature. Kluetz started out strong this evening as he kept the lead for l0 laps, but Phillips #31 Trevor Raskie would charge to the lead. Kluetz & Raskie would battle
for the last 5 laps and made contact on the white flag lap, but both were able to save it and
go on to finish the race with Raskie taking the checkered flag. Kluetz would come in second and Wisconsin Dell's #2 Jake Jump came in third.
Next week, its WRIG raindate, giving away a Futon package from Verlo Mattress of Rib Mountain. Yes, I think the mattress is dried out by now, so we're able to give it away, of course, we are just kidding. It's also, Fairest of the Fair Night here at the speedway,
racing during the Wisconsin Valley Fair while its going on. Until next week. Godspeed
