Breitenfeldt Smiles As He Takes The Check To The Bank At The Flip Merwin Memorial Race At State Park Speedway!

"If your happy, let your face know" was tonight's theme & would totally remind us of
Flip. We wish you were here and miss you deeply. We know you were only here in spirit,
but you blest us with a cool, crisp evening, not unlike what you would be used to when racing snowmobiles. A light sprinkle would graze us enough just to let us know you were up there watching us, but we were blessed without any real
precipitation that would prevent us from getting the show in. Areas to the west & south of us did experience more rain just missing us.
A truck pulling Flip's hauler went slowly around the racetrack during the parade lap
in his memory as fans, friends & family stood quietly watching & thinking of our
loss. Flip was unique, as he meant different things to different people, but no matter what,
whenever somebody met Flip, they immediately liked him.
Fifteen cars went hard for 30 laps in tonight's Super Late Model Feature. The front row of this feature was made up of two drivers not familiar with racing at State Park Speedway. Coming from the farthest distance would be Random Lake, Wisconsin's, #89 Brad Mueller (just winning Al Kulwicki Memorial at Slinger this past Sunday) & a regular at Marshfield Super Speedway, Marshfield's #15 Dean LaPointe. The man from the second
row, Wausau's #14 Wayne Breitenfeldt was on a mission, because 3 laps into this race,
he found himself out front leading the main event most of the distance. This race wasn't
an easy race, because Breitenfeldt would have Merrill's #75 Chris Weinkauf all over the
back end of his car at the finish line. Breitenfeldt would be victorious, Weinkauf would come in second and Wausau's #40 Jeremy Lepak came in third.
Central Wisconsin Late Model Feature brought lots of action tonight, as Merrill's #20
Mark Sherfinski & Phlox's #3 Carl Opper, our boys from the Northwoods would start
this exciting event. Eight laps into this race, Wausau's #00 Darin Seubert spun out in
corner 3 collecting Wausau's #28 Justin Switlick, both cars were able to continue. As racing would resume, another incident would happen in corner 3, when Wausau's
#66 Brent Zastrow looped it and Opper would smash into Zastrow, wrecking both cars
ending their night. On the restart, Sherfinski drove the car too hard in corner 1 & Wausau's #70 Neil Knoblock would earn the lead. With 5 laps remaining, it was a 3 car
shootout. Wausau's #14 Wayne Breitenfeldt (Breitenfeldt would compete in two divisions tonight) would go past Knoblock, but two laps later, Wausau's #32 Lyle Nowak charged past both of these drivers taking home the checkered flag. Second would go to Breitenfeldt and third going to Knoblock. The Semi Feature in this division was won by Wausau's #38 Matt Schulz and he would advance into the Feature. This win was special for Matt, because he raced snowmobiles with Flip.
Z104's former DJ - Andy "Black Bart" Bartelt who drove the #06 machine tonight in
our Street Stock Feature was the leader for the whole race. This race was very close, and
no one was able to gain a spot until there were only 5 laps remaining in the feature.
Merrill's #4 Dave Wendorf finished second because of not having enough laps to get ahead of Bartelt. Third went to Irma's #20 Joe Monti.
Tonight's Cenex Mini Stock Feature would bring controversy as the winner of the
race was disqualified for a rules infraction, so therefore, there was no winner. Second
would go Marathon's #22 Greg Blount, third would go to Mosinee's #88 Dale Louze.
We lost two cars tonight in our Mini Cup Division heat race as Wisconsin Dell's #2
Jake Jump hit the front stretch wall and Tripoli's #16 Nick Krueger hit turn 4's water
barrels. Since, only three cars would remain to compete in this division, track rules states that at least 5 cars must compete for a racing event.
Thank You to Sara DeWitt who once again graced us with her wonderful rendition of
the National Anthem. Pastor John Roseth of St. Andrew's Church (the church Flip attended) who gave the invocation. A special thanks to Steve Parsons, for all his foot work
in obtaining the many sponsors who supported all the divisions with various donations.

attended tonight's events in Flip's memory. In closing, we wish to share the following:
