Slinger Speedway Driver of the Week
This week Slinger Speedway honors our sixth driver of the week, David Prunty.
David started his Slinger racing career in 1990, racing an Enduro car and
moved into the Late Model division during the 1995 season. He won three
preliminary races that season and finished 26th in points. David now
drives a 2005 Pontiac GTO with a 1997 left-hander chassis. Since 1998,
David Prunty has made every single feature event at Slinger
Speedway!
After racing several years at Slinger Speedway, the team goals changed for
Prunty’s crew. At first, it was about championships but that slowly tore the
team apart emotionally. In 2006, the goal for David and his crew is to win 4
races and if they are in a championship hunt that will be a bonus. When
asked if he worries about the competition David responded with, “only within
my family; we are very competitive.” David also said, “focusing on a
championship is way too much pressure, we need to have fun and focus on our
goals.” When asked about his favorite memory David responded, “the
2001 Slinger Nationals Championship, we knew we had the car to beat about 4
weeks before the race. We couldn't wait for the Nationals to
come.”
David has a lot of motivation and drive to compete at the high level, which he
shows on a week-to-week basis. David credits his motivation to Pat
Schreiner from Port-A-John. David has achieved much success as a driver
but that championship eludes his team. With a new focus and revived
motivation, I have noticed David wearing a big smile every week at the
track. To look at all of David Prunty’s highlights, you can visit www.davidprunty.com

David would like to thank all of his wonderful sponsors for their continued
support: Port-A-John, Luedtke Lumber, Stone Mountain Access Systems, Wegner
Automotive Research, and Uncle Sam's Fireworks. David would also like to
thank his crew: Dusty, Mark, Brian H., B.O., Matt, & Alex. “I need
to thank my Dad for getting all his kids involved in racing. I also need
to thank my wife and 2 kids. I have not been able to spend much time
with them in the summers,” says David. David would also like to give a
special thank you to Carl Wegner for hiring him right out of college and
remembering the days they shared watching NASCAR events. David does have
some advice for rookies, “Be smooth and have a good handling
car.”
