Slinger Speedway Driver of the Week
June 17,2006

Our fifth Slinger Speedway Driver of the Week is Lowell Bennett.  Lowell Bennett drives a 2006 Monte Carlo.  His 2005 left-hander chassis seems to be working very well for his team.  Lowell first started racing in 1976, at several tracks.  He raced on both dirt and paved tracks while using the same car.  That is unique since most drivers had 2 types of cars for 2 types of surfaces.  He began racing at Slinger Super Speedway in 1981.  Lowell started racing in the Late Model Division and started racing successfully.  He won the Rookie of the Year award and in his second race at Slinger, Lowell edged out Joel Laufer for his first win at the track.  After remembering these events, Lowell went down memory lane and talked about his two favorite memories.  The first memory was winning the Nationals in 2000.  After a long night of racing, Lowell edged out Brad Mueller on the final lap to win his second Nationals.  The other memory is with a well-respected friend, Al Schill.  In 1986, Al Schill beat Lowell Bennett on the last racing night of the season to win the championship.  This same scenario happened again in 2001.  On the final night of that  season, Lowell edged out Al to win his third Slinger Speedway Championship.  Lowell has also won many championships at several Wisconsin tracks and won the World Series of Racing in Florida in 1997.  Lowell Bennett is a four-time champion at Slinger but still has high goals for the 2006 season.  “Our team has set our sights on another championship run this year and to win the Nationals,” said Lowell about his goals for this year.  Here are some comments about Slinger Speedway from Lowell:

“I love this place; I can't wait to go racing!  When Sunday morning comes, I get excited and pumped to get going.  Of all the tracks I race, the respect is so great and the fans are so special at Slinger.  It is such an awesome feeling every Sunday, LET’S GO RACING!”

Lowell would like to thank Pat and Dave from Port-A-John because of the help for the track and all the racers.  He would also like to thank Wagner Automotive and Mayer Insurance.  He really thanks his awesome crew for putting the time into the car, his wife and family for making him feel so blessed to race.  The crew members he would like to thank are Dave Leung (crew chief), Jim Belling, Wayne Posselt, Tim Bennett, Chase Bennett, Bob Momberg, and Jim Jungwirth.

Lowell Bennett has competed in several NASCAR events in his past and has finished every one in the top 25.  Lowell still has his Busch series car and is looking for sponsorship to race more in the future.  Lowell Bennett is currently third in points this year at Slinger Speedway, only 63 points behind current leader David Prunty.
