Slinger Speedway Driver Of The Week

This week at Slinger Speedway the Driver of the Week is Brad JJ Mueller.  Brad started his racing career in 1980, racing go-karts at Dousman.  With much success Brad moved on to Slinger Speedway in 1994, and began his racing career in the Late Model division.  The jump was big for Brad but the car was successful during his rookie season.  Brad actually purchased his rookie car from a great friend by the name of Robbie Reiser.  A little known fact about the two is that Brad stood up in Robbie’s wedding.

Brad has so many racing memories at Slinger alone that it is very difficult to find one that sticks out the most.  In racing, there is no such thing as a tie but Brad has two favorites that he would like the share. The first of the two memories was during the Slinger Nationals in 2000, Brad edged out Lowell Bennett to win his first ever Slinger Nationals.  The second memory is when Brad was crowned the Late Model champion in 2003.  This was his first championship that turned into domination over the next 2 years.  Brad is currently our 3-time defending champion heading into this season.

Brad Mueller is one of the most unselfish drivers there is in the sport and his smile is recognizable at the track and amongst his family and friends.  “I don’t compliment much about myself,” claims Brad.  “Having a level head at all times is very important to me.”  Brad is in need of a sponsor this season, which is just part of the ups and downs of the sport.  To have as much success as Brad has had and not to find a sponsor is unique but still a reality for him and his entire team.  “Without my crew, I would not be racing at all today.  They always keep me going and motivated each week,” says Brad about his team.

Although his racing experience is basically late models at Slinger, he does have some advice to fellow rookies or newer drivers in the division.  “You have to maintain a level head, don’t get over your own head, and whatever you do, don’t even think about ever passing me!”

This past week Brad was involved in a horrific crash in turn 2 that retired his car immediately.  Coming off the corner, Brad’s car went straight up the track and smashed into the wall head-on at speeds close to 80 mph.   He left in the ambulance but not after walking away from the car and waving to all the jaw-dropped fans.  Even after the crash this week, Brad remains fourth in the point standings only 68 points behind the current point leader.
