Seegert Battles To Front In Late Model Win At Shawano

Shawano, WI (May 12, 2007) - There were new and previous winners in victory
lane at Shawano Speedway Saturday night. Gordie Seegert won his first feature
of the year in the WISSOTA Late Model division. Jeremie Hedrick started 19th
in the IMCA Modified feature, and won in convincing fashion. Greg Gretz won
another IMCA Stock Car feature, while Joe White won his first IMCA Sport Mod
feature. The Fastrak Crate Late Model feature went to Justin Hirt.
A couple of cautions slowed down the start of the WISSOTA Late Model feature.
When the race resumed, Todd Flannery grabbed the lead from M.J. McBride, with
Doug Blashe, Justin Ritchie and Tom Naeyaert following. Another caution slowed
the race on lap five. Flannery continued to lead on the restart, with Ritchie
moving to second, and Terry Anvelink to third. Gordie Seegert joined the top
five on the next lap.
With Flannery still leading, both Anvelink and Seegert made their way past
Ritchie and set their sights on Flannery. They caught Flannery with seven laps
remaining. Coming out of turn two, Anvelink went high, Seegert went low,
leaving Flannery in the middle in the three-wide battle down the backstretch.
Seegert came out on top in that battle, taking the lead, with Anvelink
following. Seegert built a small lead over the next laps with Anvelink,
Ritchie, Naeyaert and Flannery all in pursuit. It was Seegert's race, as he
won his first feature of the year.
In the IMCA Modified feature, Jerry Muenster took the early lead over Dave
Diemel, Tom Schaal, M.J. Hintz and Lance Arneson. Arneson moved to third a
couple laps later, with Jared Siefert joining the top five party, when the
first caution flag flew. Arneson moved from third to first on the restart, as
Muenster began to fade. Jeremie Hedrick, who started 19th, found himself in
the top five at this time, riding the cushion in the corners.
It didn't take Hedrick long to find the top spot, as he took the lead from
Arneson at the halfway point of the race. This left Arneson, Diemel, Siefert
and Schaal to battle for the rest of the top five spots, when the final
caution flag flew. Hedrick continued to lead on the restart, with Arneson,
Diemel, Julie McDermid and Schaal following. Eddie Muenster joined the top
five in the last few laps of the race, but it was all Hedrick at the end, as
he cruised to the victory.
Kevin Lamberies used his front row starting spot to jump out to the quick lead
over Greg Gutt, Gene Johnson, Chas Van Ooyen and Brian Techmeyer in the IMCA
Stock Car feature. Over the next several laps, Lamberies pulled out to a
slight lead, while Van Ooyen moved into the third spot. By the time the race
reached its midpoint, Gutt was challenging for the lead using the high groove.
He got too high in three and four, hitting the wall, and forcing him to pit
lane.
Lamberies continued to lead as the laps started to wind down, but he had
company from Van Ooyen, Greg Gretz, Johnson and Darren Otto. A caution slowed
the race with a few laps remaining. Gretz moved to the front with Kurt Olson
and Kyle Fredrick following him by Lamberies. Gretz and Olson battled
side-by-side, but Gretz was up to the challenge. Gretz went on to the victory,
with Olson, Fredrick, Shawn Wagner and Van Ooyen following.
Dave Fieber grabbed the early lead over Joe Rueter, Justin Hirt, Craig Bartz
and Dan Wanta in the Fastrak Crate Late Model feature. Hirt got by Rueter on
the second lap, and was in pursuit of Fieber. Hirt took the top spot on lap
four, while Bartz moved to third and Cody Grosskruetz joined the top five. A
caution on lap nine took away Hirt’s big lead.
Hirt continued to lead on the restart, with Grosskruetz moving to second and
Mike Stangl moving to fourth. With Hirt firmly in the lead, Bartz and
Grosskruetz swapped the second spot a couple of times over the next few laps,
with Bartz finally taking control of the spot. It was Hirt taking the win,
with Bartz, Stangl, Grosskruetz and Todd Jensema following.
Brad Bricco led the first five laps of the IMCA Sport Mod feature, before
pulling to the pits during the first caution of the race. This gave the lead
to Joe White, with Eric Arneson, Tim Jorgenson, Matt Oreskovich and Tracy
Wassenberg following. White built himself a small lead, with Mike Czarapata
dropping Oreskovich out of the top five. Arneson began gaining on White, when
a couple of cautions plagued the race with a few laps remaining. White was
able to hold off the rest of the field, and to win the race and collect the
$1,000 to go with it. The extra payout was courtesy of Kapp Taxi Service.
Arneson, Jorgenson, Czarapata and Wassenberg rounded out the top five.
