Shawano Speedway Opener Pushed Back One Week

Shawano, WI - The Shawano Speedway was scheduled to begin its 2007 racing season on Saturday, April 14, but due to poor weather conditions, that has been pushed back one week. Now, weather permitting, the Shawano Speedway racing season is scheduled to begin Saturday, April 21. Also weather permitting, there will be a practice on Friday night, April 20.

The practice on April 20 will see car inspections beginning at 5 p.m., with practice getting underway at 6:30 p.m. Moving practice from the afternoon of opening night, to the night before will allow track personnel to have a full day to address any track issues. Spectators will be able to watch the practice for free.

Inspections will continue on Saturday, with the pits opening at 2 p.m. Racing will get started at 6 p.m. Once again, the racing program will consist of the WISSOTA Late Model, IMCA Modified, IMCA Stock Car, IMCA Sport Mod and FASTRAK Late Model divisions.

In 2007, the IMCA Modified, IMCA Stock Car and FASTRAK Late Model features will increase from 15 to 20 laps, or 20 minutes. The IMCA Sport Mod feature will be increased from 12 to 15 laps.

Several improvements have been made to the track during the off-season. The concrete wall is now complete around the entire track. The pit entrance has also been updated. The spectator parking area has been tiled. This may cause some parking issues the first couple weeks until that area is completely dry. Spectators can park in the Crawford Center area on the other side of the track. There will be a shuttle service hauling spectators to the grandstand.

"I’m excited about the season," said Dale Hodkiewicz, race director for the speedway. "We have five quality divisions of racing, and a nice lineup of weekly sponsors."

Admission prices have stayed the same in 2007: $9 for adults, $5 for Teens 12-16, Children 11 and under are free when accompanied by and adult or $2. Pit passes will once again be $20, with part of that fee put into a driver’s point fund to be distributed at the end of the year.

The regular racing season will run through Labor Day weekend. The final race of the season will be the Two Nights of Thunder sponsored by Seubert Calf Ranches on Sept. 28-29.
