By: Bert Lehman

Shawano, WI (Dec. 7, 2006) - The calendar hasn’t turned to 2007 yet, but Shawano Speedway is already gearing up for the 2007 racing season. The biggest news coming from the Speedway is the announcement of a two-day special event next year, scheduled to be held on Sept. 28 and 29. Sept. 30 with be a weather day if needed.

The two-day event will consist of Shawano Speedway’s weekly divisions of WISSOTA Late Models, Fastrak Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Sport Mods. Heat races will be run on Friday, Sept. 28, with the feature events scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29. The WISSOTA Late Model feature will pay $5,000 to the winner. The details for the rest of the payout for all divisions are still being worked on.

This will be the first "special" race hosted by Shawano Speedway in several years. According to race director, Dale Hodkiewicz, one of the reason’s it’s time for the Speedway to plan and host a "special" is the fact the threat of having the racing program delayed due to repairing guardrails is now gone. Work has already concluded on the new concrete wall in turns one and two, which was the final stage of the three-year project to put a concrete wall around the entire track.

More details about the special race on Sept. 28 & 29 will be released as they become available. Also, Shawano Speedway will not be hosting races the week after the Shawano County Fair, has it has the past few years.

In other news at the Speedway, the ditches in the spectator parking area have been tiled and filled. The opening night of the 2007 racing season at Shawano Speedway is scheduled for April 14.
