Ritchie Outduels McBride To Win Second Straight

Shawano, WI, 9/9/06--Ninety-one racers were on hand for fan appreciation night at the Shawano Speedway.  The weather may have been cold, but the racing on the track was hot.  Justin Ritchie won his second consecutive Wissota Late Model feature race.  Troy Springborn made it four wins in a row in the Fastrak Crate Late Model division.  Eric Scribner picked up his second straight win also in the modified division.  Chas VanOoyen and Brad Bricco each picked up a feature win as well.

Justin Ritchie started outside the front row in the Wissota Late Model feature and grabbed the lead at the start of the race.  Ritchie was trailed early on by MJ McBride and Chris Oertel.  On lap four lapped traffic broke Ritchie's momentum and allowed McBride to make the pass for the lead.  McBride continued to lead the race with Ritchie on his tail.  Nick Anvelink broke into the top three on lap twelve with a pass on Tim Buhler.  On lap thirteen Ritchie began to chip away at McBride's lead.  Ritchie was able to drive his Warrior chassis deeper into the turns than McBride's Mastersbilt chassis.  Finally, on lap sixteen Ritchie pulled even with McBride and was able to take back the top spot.  Ritchie would lead the rest of the race to pick up his second straight feature at the track, one week after winning his first ever Wissota Late Model feature at the track.  On the final lap Troy Springborn got around McBride to take second in the race.  McBride wound up third.  Nick Anvelink took fourth, Tim Buhler fifth.

The Fastrak Crate Late Model feature was led early on by second generation driver Joel Bennett.  On lap seven Troy Springborn took the lead from Bennett and went on to run away with the race.  Bennett held on to finish in the second spot.  Michael Stangl had a strong debut in the class, finishing third after starting ninth in the race.  Gary Janke and Bob Schmidt rounded out the top five.  For Springborn it was his fourth straight and eighth win of the season.

The modified A-main was led early on by pole sitter Charlie Wild.  Wild was passed by Eric Scribner on lap three.  Scribner fought off many challenges by Craig "The Tiger" Bartz and Eddie Muenster to pick up his second straight win and fourth win of the season.  Bartz brought home the second spot.  Brian Drexler, who made his first visit to the track in many years, went from fifth to third on the final lap.  Eddie Muenster finished fourth, his father, Jerry Muenster was fifth.

In the stock car feature race Troy Jerovitz grabbed the lead at the start of the race.  Jerovitz was immediately pressured by Chas VanOoyen.  VanOoyen was able to work his way around Jerovitz on lap four.  With VanOoyen out front, Jerovitz had a battle on his hands for second.  Nate Michonski passed Jerovitz for second on lap twelve of the race.  VanOoyen went on to win, Michonski took second.  On the final lap DJ Zegers took third away from Jerovitz, who had to settle for fourth.  Mike Asenbrener passed Jeff Brehmer on the final lap to take fifth.  The win was the second of the year for VanOoyen.

Sixteen year old Marcus Yarie led the first two laps of the sport mod feature race before the caution came out.  On the restart, Brian Besaw took the lead from Yarie.  Brad Bricco took the lead on lap four.  Besaw slipped back to third behind Jamie Diestler.  With Bricco continuing to lead, Besaw passed Diestler for second on lap six.  Bricco went on to win his fourth feature.  Besaw took the second spot.  Diestler was third.  Craig Hoffman came from eleventh to finish fourth.  Yarie rounded out the top five.

The Shawano Speedway racing banquet will be Saturday October 28th at the Woodland in Gresham.  Tickets are available at the Speedway ticket office or by phone by calling 1-866-715-6532.  For more information about the Shawano Speedway visit www.shawanospeedway.net.
