Hirt Wins Second In A Row And Claims Bounty
By Scott Owen

Shawano,WI,8/5/06--Justin Hirt picked up his second win in as many weeks in the Fastrak Crate Late Model feature.  The win also earned Hirt a two hundred fifty dollar bonus as well.  Terry Anvelink got around Doug Blashe to pick up his third Wissota Late Model win of the year.  "Modzilla" Jeremie Hedrick held off Eric Scribner in the IMCA Modified class to win his third feature.  In the IMCA Stock car division Jason Czarapata outdueled Brian Bruechert to win his second feature.  Brian Besaw borrowed his brother's IMCA Sport Mod and went on to win his first feature, and Brad Bricco won the pursuit race.

Justin Hirt used his pole starting position to grab the lead at the start of the Fastrak Crate Late Model feature.  Behind Hirt, Jeff Curtin and Mike Kunschke began to work their way through traffic towards the front.  Kunschke started in the tenth spot and had moved up to third by lap three.  Curtin joined the top five on lap four.  Kunschke passed Bob Schmidt for second on lap six.  Out front, Hirt continued to show the way.  The battle was now on for third as Schmidt tried to hold off Curtin and Joel Bennett.  A caution on lap eleven bunched the field back up.  On the restart Schmidt got back around Kunschke to take back second.  Then on lap fourteen Curtin used an inside move to pass both Kunscke and Schmidt and move into second.  The yellow flag came out again on lap seventeen to erase the lead that Hirt had built up.  When the green came back out Curtin was right on the back bumper of Hirt.  As the race wound down Hirt put some distance between himself and Curtin and held on to win the race.  Curtin had to settle for second.  Kunscke crossed the line in the third spot.  Joey Braatz and Gary Janke raced their way around Scmidt to finish fourth and fifth.  With the win Hirt also claimed the bounty by beating Curtin and Troy Springborn.

In the Wissota Late Model feature Doug "The Blaze" Blashe jumped into the lead on the start.  Blashe was trailed by Gordie Seegert Jr. for the first four laps.  On lap five Terry Anvelink used the highside to pass Seegert for second and began to run down Blashe.  On lap eight Anvelink used the highside of track again to make the pass on Blashe to take over the lead.  Anvelink set sail and began to pull away.  Nick Anvelink used the outside line to pass Seegert for third place on lap thirteen.  Terry Anvelink worked through lapped traffic and cruised to victory.  Blashe held on for second.  Nick Anvelink finished third, Seegert fourth, and Ron Berna rounded out the top five.

Russ Huxford led the opening lap of the IMCA Modified feature before John Peters took over the lead on lap two.  On lap four Bill Lemmens passed Peters to take the lead.  A caution on lap six regrouped the field.  On the restart Jeremie Hedrick and Eric Scribner, who both started deep in the field, got around Lemmens to take over first and second.  Hedrick and Scribner pulled away from the rest of the field as the race ran on.  In the closing laps Lance Arneson was the man on the move, going from sixth to third on lap thirteen.  As the checkered flag flew it was Hedrick getting the win, Scribner second, Arneson third, Lemmens fourth, and David Werbelow fifth.  After the race, in the claim area, Travis Spaulding claimed the engine of Lemmens.  Lemmens choose to swap engines.

In IMCA Stock car action DJ Zegers grabbed the lead on lap one.  He was quickly challenged for the lead by Kyle Frederick and Brian Bruechert.  Bruechert and Zegers went door to door for the lead on lap five.  Bruechert was able to make the pass.  On the next lap Jason Czarapata got past Zegers for second.  The trio of Bruchert, Czarapata, and Frederick continued to battle for the lead through lap ten.  On lap eleven Greg Gretz made it a foursome out front.  As the white flag flew, it was down to Bruechert and Czarapata for the win.  Entering turn three Bruechert ran down low, with Czarapata running up top.  Coming off of turn four the pair was still side by side for the lead.  As they crossed the start finish line it was Czarapata winning by a fender.  Gretz finished third in the race, Frederick fourth, Dan Michonski fifth.  There was a claim after the race also.  Kevin Lamberies claimed the engine of Brian Bruechert.  Bruechert choose to swap engines.

Former ministock pilot, Brian Besaw, led every lap of the IMCA Sportmod feature to pick up his first feature win.  Brad Bricco pressured Besaw the entire way, but was never able to make a pass for the top spot.  Shawn Wagner finished third in the race.  Mike Czarapata grabbed fourth, Tracy Wassenberg was fifth.

The IMCA Sportmod class also ran their pursuit race.  By lap three it was down to a three car shootout.  On lap four Wassenberg passed Craig Hoffman to eliminate him from the race.  On lap four it was down to Bricco and Wassenberg.  Wassenberg pulled off on lap five, giving the win to Bricco.

Racing continues this Saturday, the green flag drops at six o'clock.
