Diemel Returns To Victory Lane, Parker Wins First At Shawano
By: Bert Lehman

Shawano, WI (July 22, 2006) - A.J. Diemel returned to Shawano Speedway and found himself in victory lane in the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Paul Parker won his first IMCA Modified feature at the track, while Junior Karcz won his third IMCA Stock Car feature this year. Bob Besaw won the IMCA Sport Mod feature, with Joel Bennett winning a shortened Fastrack Late Model feature.

Troy Springborn jumped out to the quick lead over Craig Bartz, A.J. Diemel, M.J. McBride and Pete Parker in the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Diemel quickly moved into the second spot on the next lap, while Jeremie Hedrick also joined the top five. McBride and Hedrick moved past Bartz a couple of laps later, while Diemel began to reel in Springborn. Diemel grabbed the lead on lap eight, before the first caution flag flew. Hedrick and Springborn retired from the race at this time.

Diemel continued to lead on the restart with Nick Anvelink, McBride, Mark Mitchell and Bartz following. Mitchell worked his way by McBride two laps later, with Terry Anvelink also joining the top five. Diemel began to pull away over the next few laps when Nick Anvelink spun, bringing out another caution. Diemel continued to lead on the restart with McBride moving to second, Mitchell in third, followed by Tim Buhler and Chris Ortel. Buhler moved to third on the next lap, with Ortel and Terry Anvelink following. There was no denying Diemel as he went on to win his second feature of the year at the Speedway. He was followed by McBride, Buhler, Ortel and Terry Anvelink.

A couple of early cautions slowed the action in the IMCA Modified feature. When the action got going, Paul Parker jumped into the lead over Jerry Wilinski, John Peters, Dave Diemel and Jeremie Hedrick. Parker pulled out to a slight lead when a couple more cautions plagued the race. With half the laps in the books, the race was restarted. Parker maintained his lead, with Hedrick moving to second and Eric Scribner joining the top five. Hedrick’s car then came to a stop one lap later with a flat right front tire bringing out the final caution.

On the restart, Parker continued to lead, with Peters, Wilinski, Scribner and Dave Diemel following. Peters tried a couple time to challenge for the lead, but could not accomplish that feat. Scribner moved up to third with a couple laps remaining, while Hedrick worked his way back up to fifth on the last lap. It was Parker crossing the line first, claiming his first feature win at the Speedway. He was followed by Peters, Scribner, Wilinski and Hedrick.

In the IMCA Stock Car feature, Brian Ambrosious took the quick lead over Chas Van Ooyen, Greg Gretz, Dave Zegers and Mike Asenbrener. Junior Karcz joined the top five two laps later, and set his sights for the leader. With Ambrosious still leading, Karcz battled Van Ooyen for the second spot. Van Ooyen held him off for a couple laps, but relinquished the position to Karcz midway through the race.

Once in second, Karcz pulled up to Ambrosious’ rear bumper and following him closely for several laps. With three laps remaining, Karcz made his move and took over the top spot. Karcz led the rest of the way, winning his third straight feature. He was followed by Ambrosious, Gretz, Van Ooyen and Brian Bruechert.

Jamie Diestler led the first two laps of the IMCA Sport Mod feature, with Bob Besaw, Craig Hoffman, Aaron Holiday and Tom Schmidt following. Besaw took the lead on the third lap, and immediately began pulling away from the rest of the field. As the race continued, Tracy Wassenberg worked his way into the top five, as did Brad Bricco. Besaw led the rest of the way, to win his second feature of the year. He was followed by Diestler, Wassenberg, Hoffman and Bricco.

The Fastrak Late Model feature was shortened to five laps due to several cautions and the curfew. Joel Bennett grabbed the lead on the fourth lap, and was awarded the win. He was followed by Jeff Wickersheim, Aaron Wickersheim, Joey Braatz and Gary Janke.
