Hedrick Wins Second Straight Modified Feature At Shawano
By: Bert Lehman

Shawano, WI (June 10, 2006) - Racing continued at Shawano Speedway Saturday night, with veteran Pete Parker winning the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Jeremie Hedrick won his second straight IMCA Modified feature, while Jason Czarapata won the IMCA Stock Car feature. The Fastrak Crate Late Model feature went to Jeff Curtin, and the IMCA Sport Mod feature went to Brad Bricko.

Using his pole position starting spot, Pete Parker jumped out to the early lead over Jesse Peebles, Cody Grosskreutz, Ryan Huettl and Greg Stelse. Huettl grabbed the third spot on the next lap, with Troy Springborn joining the top five. Over the next several laps, Parker began to build himself a nice lead, with Springborn moving up to third by the time half the race was in the books.

Just past the halfway point, Springborn began to fade, Grosskreutz moved up to third and Rod Snellenberger moved up to fourth. With the laps winding down, Snellenberger grabbed the third spot from Grosskreutz, with Gordie Seegert moving to the fifth spot. With three laps remaining, Snellenberger made contact with Peebles in turn two. Peebles spun out, and Snellenberger broke some front-end suspension items on his car, ending his night. Peebles got his spot back on the restart. Parker continued to lead on the restart, and went on to the victory. He was followed by Grosskreutz, Seegert, Nick Anvelink and Tom Naeyaert.

In the IMCA Modified feature, Mike Wedelstadt took the lead at the drop of the green flag over Jamie Schmidt, Jeremy Hodkiewicz, Paul Thorpe and Eddie Muenster. A caution on lap three slowed the action. On the restart, Wedelstadt continued to lead, with Hodkiewicz second, Muenster third, Dave Diemel fourth and Thorpe fifth. Jeremie Hedrick joined the top five on the next lap, and started his advance toward the front when another caution slowed the action.

Wedelstadt continued to lead on the restart, with Hedrick moving to second, and Muenster, Hodkiewicz and Diemel following. Hedrick got a run on Wedelstadt on the next lap, but Wedelstadt tried to take Hedrick’s line away, only to drift up the track, allowing Hedrick to take the lead. Once in the lead, Hedrick never looked back, as he took the win. In post-race inspection, it was discovered that Wedelstadt had illegal spindles on his car, disqualifying himself from the race. This gave second place to Muenster, with Hodkiewicz, Diemel and Brandon Czarapata rounding out the top five.

Scott Stewart led the first two laps of the IMCA Stock Car feature, before giving up the lead to Greg Gretz. Stewart settled into second place, with B.J. Giese, Junior Karcz and Mike Ashenbrenner following. Giese eventually worked his way up to the second spot, while Brian Bruechert joined the top five, when the only caution of the race came out on lap seven.

Gretz continued to lead on the restart, with Bruechert moving up to third, and Giese, Jason Czarapata and Darren Otto following. With five laps to go, Czarapata grabbed the second spot and set his sights on Gretz, leaving Giese, Bruechert and Rod Snellenberger to fight for third. Czarapata pulled up to Gretz’s rear bumper with two laps to go, and he pulled alongside him with one lap remaining. The two drivers raced side-by-side for almost the entire lap. At the line, it was Czarapata winning by inches over Gretz. Giese, Bruechert and Snellenberger rounded out the top five. After the race was over, Bruechert had his engine claimed by Jeff Brehmer. Bruechert chose to do an engine swap with Brehmer.

The first four laps of the Fastrack Crate Late Model feature was led by Matt Rindt, with Bob Schmidt, Troy Springborn, Joel Bennett and Chad Hohn following. Springborn moved into second place on the fourth lap, and then grabbed the lead on the next lap. Once in the lead, Springborn began to pull away from the field, while Jeff Curtin was making his way through the top five. A caution with five laps remaining took away Springborn’s big lead, bunching up the field.

On the restart, Springborn continued to lead, with Curtin moving to second, while Rindt, Mike Kunschke and Jeff Wickersheim rounded out the top five. Curtin moved to the inside of Springborn on the next lap to take the lead. The two battled side-by-side with the laps coming to an end when a caution came out after the white flag had waved. It was ruled Curtin had led the last completed lap, so the win went to Curtin, with Springborn, Kunschke, Rindt and Wickersheim following.

Mike Czarapata led the first lap of the IMCA Sport Mod feature before Brad Bricko grabbed the top spot. Czarapata continued to drop positions over the next several laps, leaving Shawn Wagner, Craig Hoffman and Tracy Wassenberg to chase the leader. Wassenberg began making his way through the top five, and grabbed the second spot with three laps remaining. There was no catching Bricko, as he won his second straight feature, with Wassenberg, Wagner, Hoffman and Jason Jach rounding out the top five.

Racing action will continue at Shawano Speedway next Saturday. Racing actions starts at 6:00 p.m. For more information about Shawano Speedway, visit www.shawanospeedway.net
