Anvelink Wins Thrilling Late Model Feature At Shawano

Shawano, WI (June 3, 2006) - On one of the best nights weather-wise for racing
of the year at Shawano Speedway, Terry Anvelink won a thriller of a feature in
the WISSOTA Late Model division. Jeremie Hedrick won the IMCA Modified
feature, while Kevin Lamberies won the IMCA Stock Car feature. The Fastrak
Crate Late Model feature went to Jeff Curtin, and the IMCA Sport Mod feature
went to Brad Bricko.
Rod Snellenberger took early control of the WISSOTA Late Model feature over
M.J. McBride, Greg Stelse, Mark Mitchell and Tom Naeyaert. Mitchell moved to
third on the next lap, while Snellenberger pulled out to a slight lead.
Running the high groove, Mitchell grabbed the second spot on lap four, and set
his sights on Snellenberger. He caught Snellenberger on lap seven and took
over the top spot. Mitchell pulled away from the rest of the field when a
caution came out just past the midway point of the race.
Mitchell maintained his lead on the restart, but now had Troy Springborn
knocking on the door for the top spot, when another caution came out.
Springborn grabbed the lead on the restart, with Terry Anvelink, Mitchell,
McBride and Naeyaert following. Anvelink was right on Springborn’s rear
bumper over the next two laps, before pulling alongside the outside of
Springborn with three laps remaining. With Anvelink on the high-side and
Springborn low, the two battled back and forth side-by-side over the remaining
laps of the race. In the end, it was Anvelink coming out on top, winning his
second feature of the season. Springborn, Mitchell, McBride and Ritchie
followed him across the line.
In the IMCA Modified feature, Paul Thorpe grabbed the early lead over Jeremy
Hanson, Bill Martin, Brandon Czarapata and Travis Spaulding. Thorpe pulled out
to a slight lead over the next few laps, while Czarapata moved to second,
Spaulding to third and Jeremie Hedrick to fifth. Hedrick began making his way
to the front, picking off cars almost every lap, and finding himself in second
place just past the halfway point when a caution came out.
On the restart, Thorpe got shuffled out of the top five, with Czarapata taking
the top spot, with Hedrick, Spaulding, Hanson and Eric Scribner following.
Czarapata held the lead for two laps, before Hedrick assumed the top spot with
a high-side pass. Over the remaining laps, Scribner made it up to third, but
it was all Hedrick, as he went on to the win. He was followed by Czarapata,
Scribner, Spaulding and Hanson.
Brian Ambrosious led the first lap of the IMCA Stock Car feature before Greg
Gretz took the lead. The race was plagued by a couple cautions over the next
few laps. Gretz maintained his lead on the restart, with Kevin Lamberies,
Jason Czarapata, Ambrosious and Brian Bruechert following. Gretz and Lamberies
raced side-by-side over the next three laps, with Lamberies eventually taking
the lead, while Bruechert moved to fourth and Junior Karcz joined the top
five.
With the laps winding down, Lamberies was in control of the race, while
Czarapata moved to second, and Karcz to fourth. Jeremy Christians made a
charge into the top five the last couple laps of the race, but it was all
Lamberies, as he went on to win the feature. He was followed by Czarapata,
Christians, Karcz and Bruechert.
In the Fastrak Crate Late Model feature, Rocky Miller controlled the first
half of the race, leaving A.J. Miller, Matt Rindt, Jeff Wickersheim and Mike
Kunschke battling for positions behind him. Rindt fell out of the top five on
lap seven, as Troy Springborn joined the top five. Miller had a big lead, when
a caution came out on the next lap. Aaron Wickersheim took the lead on the
restart, with Rocky Miller, A.J. Miller, Jeff Curtin and Springborn following.
A.J. Miller, Curtin and Springborn raced three-wide for a bit, before Curtin
took the lead on the next lap, when another caution slowed the action.
Springborn moved into the lead on the restart, and took the white flag while
leading the race. Curtin battled back on the last lap, passed Springborn, and
went on to win his second feature in a row. He was followed by Springborn,
Aaron Wickersheim, Jeff Wickersheim and A.J. Miller.
Jamie Diesler led the first four laps of the IMCA Sport Mod feature, with Brad
Bricko, Craig Hoffman, Robert Besaw and Shawn Wagner following. Bricko moved
into the top spot on lap five. A caution a couple laps later slowed the
action.
Bricko maintained his lead on the restart, with Tracy Wassenberg, Wagner,
Hoffman and Mike Czarapata following. Bricko pulled out to a decent lead over
the next several laps, while Jason Jach joined the top five. It was Bricko’s
race, as he went on to victory over Wassenberg, Jach, Wagner and Czarapata.
Racing action will continue at Shawano Speedway next Saturday. Racing actions
