Victory Finds Seegert At Shawano
By: Bert Lehman

Shawano, WI (August 20, 2005) - In what turned out to be a wild night of racing, Gordie Seegert found himself in victory lane after the WISSOTA Late Model feature, his fourth feature win of the season. In the process, he also takes over the points lead in the division. John Berna won his first feature of the year in the IMCA Modified division, while Larry Karcz won his second IMCA Stock Car feature. Jeff Curtin won his ninth Limited Late Model feature.

Gordie Seegert grabbed the quick lead over Ron Berna, A.J. Diemel, Nick Anvelink and Mark Mitchell in the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Troy Springborn joined the top five on the next lap, while Anvelink passed Diemel for the third spot. Over the next couple laps, Berna began to close in on Seegert, and made the pass for the lead on the high-side on lap five. Anvelink worked his way by Seegert four laps later, when Diemel spun in turn two, bringing out the caution

Berna continued to lead on the restart, with Anvelink, Seegert, Chris Carlson and Troy Springborn following. Berna pulled out to a slight lead over Anvelink, while Carlson and Springborn were in a tussle for fourth. With seven laps remaining, Anvelink began to close the gap on Berna, and pulled up to his rear bumper with five laps remaining. Two laps later, Anvelink pulled alongside Berna, but couldn’t make the pass for the lead, and fell to third, with Seegert getting by him. With lapped traffic around, Berna took the white flag in the lead, but spun in turn two, bringing out the caution, and giving the win to Seegert. Anvelink, Springborn, Carlson and Tom Naeyaert rounded out the top five.

Tom Schaal led the first lap of the IMCA Modified feature when a caution came out. Two more cautions before another lap could be completed took a toll on the field, with one of the accidents involving nine cars on the frontstretch. When the race was restarted, Wade Schutt took over the lead, with John Berna, Schaal, Lance Arneson and Mike Watson following. Berna pulled up to Schutt’s rear bumper on the next lap when another caution flag waved. When the race was restarted, Schutt was off the pace on the backstretch and Schaal’s car got on top of the guardrail in turn three. With the time limit up, the race was deemed complete, with the win going to Berna. Arneson, Eddie Muenster, Jerry Muenster and Tom Haferkorn rounded out the top five.

In the IMCA Stock Car feature, Kevin Lamberies jumped out to the quick lead over Rod Snellenberger, Larry Karcz, Mike Brehmer and Jeff Brehmer. Lamberies, Snellenberger and Karcz began to pull away from the rest of the field. Snellenberger made the pass for the lead on the fifth lap, with Karcz following in second. Karcz and Snellenberger locked into a battle for the lead over the next several laps, while Jason Czarapata and Kyle Frederick began making their way toward the leaders.

With Snellenberger still leading with five laps remaining, Karcz was right on his rear bumper, with Czarapata charging to catch the top two cars. With two laps remaining, the three drivers went three wide on the frontstretch, with Karcz crossing the line first and Czarapata second. Snellenberger fought back to take the lead with one lap remaining. Karcz ducked to the inside of Snellenberger in turn three on the final lap. Snellenberger drifted up the track a bit, allowing Karcz to take the lead with Czarapata following him. Karcz took the win, with Czarapata, Snellenberger, Frederick and Lamberies following.

Matt Rindt grabbed the lead over Nate Yonker, Jeff Curtin, Luke Uttecht and Aaron Wickersheim in the Limited Late Model feature. Curtin grabbed the second spot on the third lap and set his sights on Rindt. Curtin caught Rindt a couple laps later, and grabbed the lead. Rindt spun a couple laps later, bringing out the caution.

Curtin continued to lead on the restart, with Wickersheim, Yonker, Jesse Peebles and Mike Kunschke following. Curtin began to pull away from the field, while Joey Braatz joined the top five. Curtin went on to the victory, with Wickersheim, Braatz, A.J. Miller and Yonker following.

Racing action continues Saturday night, with the action starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the Shawano Speedway, visit www.shawanospeedway.net.
