Anvelink Rerurns To Victory Lane, Curtin Continues Dominance
By Scott Owen

Shawano,WI,8/6--Repeat winners were the order of the evening saturday night at the Shawano Speedway.  Nick Anvelink, Brad Rohloff, Brian Bruechert, and Jeff Curtin picked up feature wins in their respective divisions.

The beginning of the WISSOTA late model feature was plagued by caution flags.  Tom Naeyaert used his outside front row starting position to take the early lead in the race.  Nick Anvelink quickly began pressuring Naeyaert for the lead.  Anvelink was able to use the outside line to get by Naeyaert.  Anvelink and Naeyaert quickly began to pull away from the rest of the field.  Behind the front two cars Randy Markwardt, Pete Parker, and Gordie Seegert Jr. began working their way towards the front.  Seegert was involved in one of the early cautions and had to restart at the tail of the field.  In the end Anvelink was able to work through lapped traffic and hang on for the win, his fifth of the year at the track.  Naeyaert crossed the line in second in front of Markwardt, Seegert, and Parker.

In IMCA modifed action Ron Figlinski was the early leader of the race before being passed Mike Wedalstadt, Brad Rohloff, and Eddie Muenster. Those three dirvers swapped the lead back and forth for a number of laps before Rohloff finally took the lead for good.  Muenster and Wedalstadt continued battling.  Muenster eventually prevailed in that battle to finish in the second spot.  Wedalstadt took third, Jamie schmidt finished in fourth, Figlinski held on for the fifth spot.  After the race Schmidt's engine was claimed by Jeremie Hedrick.  The claim was accepted.  The win was Rohloff's second of the year.

Once again the IMCA stock car division put on a whale of a show.  Les Slater started on the pole and led for the first three laps of the event.  At that point Kurt Olson Took the lead, but he would only hold it for two laps before Junior Karcz got by.  Brian Bruechert also got by Olson and began a side by side battle with Karcz.  Olson had to go to the pits after making contact with the backstretch wall.  As Karcz and Bruechert continued to battle Dan Michonski, Jason Czarapata, and Kyle Frederick joined the leaders.  In the end Bruechert got out front and took his third win of the year.  He was followed closely across the finish line by Czarapata, Karcz, Frederick, and Michonski.

Jesse Peebles used the outside line to grab the lead at the start of the limited late model feature.  Peebles contied to work the high line of the track, while Jeff Curtin ran the lowside.  Curtin made the pass for the lead on lap eight.  Peebles was then pressured by Matt Rindt, Mike Kunschke, and Aaron Wickersheim.  A restart on lap thirtenn bunched the field back up.  Peebles was able to pull even with Curtin, but Curtin continued to stick to the inside of the track a pull away for his eigth feature win on the year.  Peebles would finish second, Kunschke third, Wickersheim fourth, and Rindt fifth.

Racing action continues Saturday night, with the action starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the Shawano Speedway, visit www.shawanospeedway.net.
