Seegert & Wedelstadt Win Again At Shawano Speedway
By: Bert Lehman

Shawano, WI (July 30, 2005) - Gordie Seegert and Mike Wedelstadt each won feature events for the second week in a row at the Shawano Speedway in the WISSOTA Late Model and IMCA Modified divisions. Kevin Lamberies won his third IMCA Stock Car feature, while Jeff Curtin won his seventh Limited Late Model feature.

Gordie Seegert used his pole position starting spot to grab the early lead in the WISSOTA Late Model feature. A caution after the first lap forced a restart, with Seegert maintaining his lead over A.J. Diemel, Justin Ritchie, Tom Naeyaert and Tim Buhler. Naeyaert and Buhler worked their way by Ritchie over the next couple laps before another caution flag flew. On the restart, Naeyaert got by Diemel, when another caution flag flew. Diemel took the second spot back on the restart, while Naeyaert and Terry Anvelink battled side-by-side and M.J. McBride followed.

A couple more cautions during the middle portion of the race once again slowed the action. Seegert maintained his lead on each restart, with Diemel, Naeyaert, Anvelink and Ron Berna following. Running the high-groove, Seegert began to pull away from Diemel. The best action was the battle for the fifth spot between Berna and Nick Anvelink. Anvelink pulled up to Berna’s rear bumper with four laps remaining. Anvelink pulled alongside Berna on the next lap, before edging past Berna one lap later. Berna battled back on the final lap to claim the fifth spot. No one had anything for Seegert, who won his third feature of the year. He was followed by Diemel, Naeyaert, Terry Anvelink and Berna.

Several cautions at the beginning of the IMCA Modified feature slowed the action. When the race finally got going, Mike Wedelstadt jumped into the lead over Craig Bartz, Wade Schutt, Jerry Wilinski and Matt McDermid. Wilinski soon fell out of the top five, moving McDermid to fourth, and Eric Scribner to fifth. Current point leader, Lance Arneson retired from the race on lap seven.

As the race progressed, Wedelstadt began to pull away to a slight lead over Bartz. Bartz had his hands full with Schutt, who was right on Bartz’s rear bumper. Bartz fended off those challenges. But with two laps remaining, Bartz’s motor went up in smoke, ending his race. When the checkered flag waved, it was Wedelstadt winning his third straight feature. Schutt, McDermid, Scribner and Jerry Muenster followed him across the line.

In the Limited Late Model feature, Jeff Curtin and Jesse Peebles waged a side-by-side battle during the opening lap, with Curtin eventually taking the lead. With Curtin pulling away over the next few laps, Aaron Wickersheim was the driver on the move, getting by Peebles on the fourth lap for the second spot.

Rocky Miller was also moving up in the race before riding the guardrail in turns three and four. Miller continued on, but fell back in the pack. A caution with five laps remaining bunched up the field. Peebles used the restart to regain the second spot, with Wickersheim battling with Matt Rindt. Wickersheim won that battle. Curtin once again pulled away from the field, and went on to win the feature. He was followed by Peebles, Wickersheim, Rindt and Mike Kunschke.

Larry Karcz led the first lap of the IMCA Stock Car feature, before Kevin Lamberies grabbed the top spot on the second lap. Karcz, Barry Van Stratten, Jason Czarapata and Kurt Olson followed in line behind Lamberies. It stayed that way until a rain shower came with almost half the race in the books. Because of the rain, the race was deemed complete, with Lamberies getting the victory. After the race, Lamberies had his engine claimed by Rod Snellenberger.

Racing action continues Saturday night, with the action starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the Shawano Speedway, visit www.shawanospeedway.net
