Seegert, Wedelstadt, Michonski, Miller Win Fast Features At Shawano
By: Bert Lehman

Shawano, WI (July 23, 2005) - Afternoon rain didn’t stop the racing action at the Shawano Speedway, as Gordie Seegert won his second WISSOTA Late Model feature. Mike Wedelstadt also won his second IMCA Modified feature. Dan Michonski and Rocky Miller each won their first features of the year in the IMCA Stock Car and Limited Late Model divisions.

Gordie Seegert grabbed the early lead over Ron Berna, Mark Mitchell, Tim Buhler and Tim Isenberg in the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Nick Anvelink joined the top five on the next lap. Over the next several laps, Seegert and Berna pulled away slightly from the rest of the pack. Berna took the top spot on lap five, only to have Seegert battle back to reclaim the lead one lap later. A caution on lap seven slowed the action.

On the restart, Seegert continued to lead, with Mitchell and A.J. Diemel getting by Berna. Diemel and Mitchell got together two laps later. Both continued, but the caution came out for debris, while Mitchell also headed to the pits. A final caution came out with two laps remaining, making it a two lap shootout to the finish. Seegert maintained his lead on the restart, with Berna moving back to the runner-up spot. Terry Anvelink and Tom Naeyaert followed in third and fourth. Tim Isenberg got by Diemel on the last lap for the fifth spot, but it was all Seegert, as he went on to the victory.

The IMCA Modified feature got off to a rough start, with an opening lap accident involving eight cars. When the race got started, Mike Wedelstadt jumped out to the lead over Matt McDermid, ShawnFrelich, Eddie Muenster and Jerry Wilinski. Wedelstadt immediately began pulling away from the field, while Frelich, Muenster and Wilinski raced bumper-to-bumper. A lap five restart saw Frelich move to second behind Wedelstadt. Wilinski grabbed the second spot on the next lap, while current points leader, Lance Arneson joined the top five a couple laps later.

The final caution of the race came out with two laps remaining when Muenster’s motor went up in smoke. Wedelstadt continued to lead over Wilinski, Scribner, Frelich and Arneson when the race was restarted. Scribner worked his way by Wilinski on the last lap, as did Arneson past Frelich. There was nobody getting by Wedelstadt, as he won his second feature in three days at the Shawano Speedway.

Kevin Lamberies flew into the lead in the IMCA Stock Car feature, with Dan Michonski, Larry Karcz, Rod Snellenberger and Jason Czarapata following. After Lamberies built a decent lead after two laps, Michonski began gaining on Lamberies on the third lap. Lamberies’ race ended one lap later, when his motor went up in smoke. Karcz also went to the pits at this time, with fire coming from his motor.

Michonski inherited the lead, with Snellenberger, Czarapata, Jeff Brehmer, and Brian Bruechert following. Snellenberger and Czarapata raced side-by-side for the next two laps, while Kyle Frederick also joined the top five at this time. Czarapata stayed right on Snellenberger’s rear bumper over the next few laps. With two laps remaining, Czarapata pulled alongside Snellenberger and grabbed the second spot on the last lap. Michonski crossed the finish line first for the win, with Czarapata, Snellenberger, Frederick and Brehmer following.

Rocky Miller moved into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the Limited Late Model feature with Jesse Peebles, Aaron Wickersheim and Bob Schmidt following. Several caution flags slowed the action throughout the race. Miller maintained the lead on each restart, and eventually went on to win the shortened race. Peebles, Wickersheim, Schmidt and Jeff Curtin rounded out the top five.

Racing action continues Saturday night, with the action starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the Shawano Speedway, visit www.shawanospeedway.net
