Seegert, Muenster Find Victory Lane At Shawano
By: Bert Lehman

Shawano, WI (July 2, 2005) - It was a beautiful night for racing at the Shawano Speedway Saturday night. Gordie Seegert won his first WISSOTA Late Model feature of the year. Eddie Muenster and Kevin Lamberies each won their first features of the year in the IMCA Modified and IMCA Stock Car divisions. Jeff Curtin once again won the Limited Late Model feature, his fifth of the year.

Gordie Seegert used his pole position starting spot to jump out to the early lead over Doug Blashe, Mark Mitchell, Chris Carlson and Pete Parker in the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Mitchell grabbed the second spot on the next lap, while Carlson pulled alongside Blashe, and A.J. Diemel joined the top five. Blashe held off Carlson, but eventually fell to fourth a couple laps later when Diemel passed Carlson and Blashe. With Seegert pulling away from the field, Diemel was gaining on Mitchell, and grabbed the second spot just before a caution came out with half the race in the books.

Seegert continued to lead on the restart, with Diemel moving to second, Terry Casey to third, with Mitchell and Parker following. With seven laps remaining, Troy Springborn passed Parker for the fifth spot. Another caution came out with five laps remaining. The race was restarted, and two more laps were completed when a couple cars mid-pack got together, resulting in M.J. McBride’s car hitting the turn four guardrail almost head-on. McBride was not injured, but the race was called in order to fix the guardrail. Seegert took home the win, with Diemel, Casey, Springborn and Terry Anvelink following.

In the IMCA Modified feature, Dave Diemel led the first lap before the caution flag flew. On the restart, Eddie Muenster pulled alongside Diemel, with Jerry Muenster closely following. Both Muensters disposed of Diemel on the next lap, and pulled out to a slight lead over the next few laps. Mike Wedelstadt was also working his way through the field, claiming the third spot six laps into the race. Craig Bartz passed Diemel for fourth two laps later.

During the middle part of the race, Jerry Muenster was applying heavy pressure on his son, Eddie, for the lead. Each time, the younger Muenster would fend off the challenge. While those two battled, Bartz moved into the third spot, passing Wedelstadt. Over the course of the rest of the race, Jerry Muenster tried passing on the high-side and the low-side, but just couldn’t make the pass stick. He would have to settle for second, as Eddie Muenster won his first feature of the year. Bartz, Lance Arneson and Jeremy Hanson wound out top five.

B.J. Giese grabbed the early lead over Mike Brehmer, Kevin Lamberies, Kurt Olson and Dan Michonski in the IMCA Stock Car feature. Brehmer quickly fell out of the top five, while the other top five drivers moved up a position. Lamberies grabbed the lead on the third lap, while Michonski moved up to third, with Chas Van Ooyen and Olson following.

As the race continued, Lamberies began to pull away from the rest of the field, while Giese and Michonski were in a dogfight for the second spot. Giese was able to fend off Michonski’s challenges. The battle for the fifth spot was also hotly contested between Kyle Frederick, Brian Bruechert and Rod Snellenberger. In the end it was all Lamberies, as he won his first feature of the season. Giese, Michonski, Snellenberger and Bruechert followed him across the line. After the race, Lamberies’ engine was claimed by Brian Karcz.

Aaron Wickersheim led the first lap of the Limited Late Model feature, before Jeff Curtin took over the top spot on the next lap. This left Wickersheim to battle with Luke Uttecht. Uttecht took control of the second spot a couple laps later. Jesse Peebles moved into the third spot on the next lap. As the race progressed, Curtin built himself a huge lead. Peebles began to reel in Uttecht, and took the second spot with two laps remaining. It was all Curtin, as he won his fifth feature of the year. He was followed by Peebles, Uttecht, Mike Kunschke and Wickersheim. Racing action continues next Saturday night, with the action starting at 6:30 p.m. There will also be a Beat Mother Nature night of racing on Thursday, July 21. This night of racing will include the regular Shawano Speedway divisions. Track points will not be awarded, but national points will be awarded.
