Anvelink Wins Third Feature At Shawano Speedway
By Bert Lehman

Shawano, WI (June 25, 2005) - A strong field of cars greeted fans at the Shawano Speedway Saturday night, with Nick Anvelink winning his third WISSOTA Late Model feature of the year. Jeremie Hedrick won his second IMCA Modified feature, while Rod Snellenberger won his second IMCA Stock Car feature. Jeff Curtin returned to victory lane in the Limited Late Model feature, winning his fourth feature of the year.

Cody Grosskruetz paced the field, leading the first lap of the WISSOTA Late Model feature, with Gordie Seegert, Tim Buhler, Nick Anvelink and Ron Berna following. Seegert wasted no time in taking the lead from Grosskruetz on the second lap, with Buhler and Berna following over the next two laps. Seegert led through lap four, before pulling into the pits, giving the lead to Buhler. Buhler had a slight lead over Berna, while Anvelink was gaining on Berna.

Anvelink grabbed the second spot just before half the race was in the books. A.J. Diemel and Chris Carlson also joined the top five at this time. Anvelink began gaining on Buhler over the next several laps, while Diemel grabbed the third spot from Berna. Anvelink grabbed the lead with seven laps remaining. Diemel then caught Buhler, and raced him side-by-side, before taking over the second spot. Berna also got by Buhler, but it was all Anvelink, as he cruised to the victory. He was followed by Diemel, Berna, Buhler and Carlson.

In the IMCA Modified feature, Tom Schaal jumped out to the quick lead over John Berna, Shawn Frelich, Matt McDermid and Jerry Wilinski. A caution on the third lap slowed the action. Schaal continued to lead on the restart, with Berna still second. Eddie Muenster moved up to third, with Wilinski and Eric Scribner following. Scribner began moving toward the front over the next several laps, moving up to the second spot. The driver on the move was Jeremie Hedrick, who started the race in the last spot, but was in the top five halfway through the race.

Scribner remained in the lead on the restart, with Schaal, Hedrick, Muenster and Lance Arneson following. Hedrick continued to make the charge to the front, grabbing the second spot with five laps remaining. Hedrick began pressuring Scribner for the lead, before pulling alongside him with three laps remaining. Hedrick made the pass stick, and pulled away for the victory. He was followed by Scribner, Muenster, Arneson and McDermid. After the race, Hedrick had his motor claimed by Joe Haferkorn. Claim was accepted.

Mike Ashenbrener took the early lead over Jeff Brehmer, Tyler Rasmussen, Chas Van Ooyen and B.J. Giese in the IMCA Stock Car feature. Rod Snellenberger and Brian Bruechert joined the top five on the second lap, grabbing the third and fifth spots. Snellenberger moved into second on the next lap, and set his sights on the leader. Snellenberger grabbed the lead on the fourth lap, leaving Ashenbrener to battle with Brehmer.

With Snellenberger firmly in the lead, Bruechert continued making his way through the top five, and grabbed the second spot just before the halfway point of the race. The best action was taking place for the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, with Brian Karcz, Jason Czarapata and Kyle Frederick swapping the spots. When the checkered flag flew, it was Snellenberger crossing the line first, followed by Bruechert, Brehmer, Karcz and Czarapata.

In the Limited Late Model feature, Aaron Wickersheim took the early lead over Jeff Curtin, Nate Yonker, Mike Kunschke and Luke Uttecht. By the third lap, Curtin was pressuring Wickersheim for the lead, and made the pass for the lead two laps later. Wickersheim began to fade, giving the second spot to Uttecht, while Bob Schmidt grabbed the third spot just past the midway point of the race.

As the race progressed, Curtin pulled away from the rest of the field and cruised to the victory. He was followed by Uttecht, Schmidt, Mike Kunschke and Wickersheim.

Racing action continues next Saturday night, with the action starting at 6:30 p.m. There will also be a Beat Mother Nature night of racing on Thursday, July 21. This night of racing will include the regular Shawano Speedway divisions. Track points will not be awarded, but national points will be awarded.
