Parker Wins WISSOTA Late Model Main, Scribner Dominates IMCA Modified Feature
By Bert Lehman

Shawano, WI (July 31, 2004) - A full grandstand of fans witnessed veteran Pete Parker win his second WISSOTA Late Model feature of the year at the Shawano Speedway. Eric Scribner won his first IMCA Modified feature, while Rod Snellenberger won his fourth IMCA Stock Car feature. Jeff Curtin won his third Limited Late Model feature.

In the 20-lap WISSOTA Late Model feature, Pete Parker grabbed the early lead over Tom Naeyaert, Tim Lemirande, Luke Roffers and M.J. McBride. Terry Casey joined the top five on the second lap, while Roffers began applying pressure on Lemirande for third place, before grabbing the position one lap later. Parker began to pull away a bit, while Springborn passed Casey for the fifth spot.

Just past the halfway point of the race, Roffers began challenging for the second spot, while Springborn also started a side-by-side battle with Lemirande. Roffers eventually tookover the second spot, as Springborn grabbed the fourth spot. Roffers was able to close the gap a little on Parker. The best action was taking place between Naeyaert and Springborn, who raced side-by-side for much of the final laps of the race, before Springborn secured the position. It was Parker’s race, though, as he took the win over Roffers, Springborn, Naeyaert and Tim Buhler.

Eric Scribner jumped out to the early lead over Shawn Miller, Jim Hanson, Jeremy Hanson and Brad Rohloff in the IMCA Modified feature. Jim Hanson then moved into the second spot, as Rohloff and Jeremie Hedrick began making their way through the top five. With Scribner firmly in the lead, Rohloff grabbed the second spot just before half the race was in the books.

Hanson fought back, and the two raced side-by-side for the next couple laps. While Hanson and Rohloff were dueling it out, it allowed Wade Schutt and Hedrick to catch up to them. So while Scribner was way out in front, Hanson, Rohloff, Schutt and Hedrick were swapping positions each lap until the checkered flag waved. At that point, it was Hanson, Schutt, Rohloff and Hedrick following Scribner across the line.

In the IMCA Stock Car feature, B.J. Giese held the early lead over Tyler Rasmussen, Kevin Lamberies, Dan Michonski and Brian Bruechert. Giese began to fade over the next several laps, giving the lead to Lamberies with Michonski, Jason Czarapata, Rod Snellenberger and Bruechert close behind with several side-by-side battles.

Michonski grabbed the lead at the halfway point, leaving Lamberies, Czarapata and Snellenberger in a three-wide battle. No position was safe over the next several laps, as the top six drivers were swapping positions in every corner, with Lamberies reclaiming the lead with five laps remaining. Snellenberger was in fifth place at that time, but found the right line to work his way through traffic to take the lead with two laps remaining. He held on for the remaining laps, to take the win over Lamberies, Kyle Fredrick, Bruechert and Czarapata.

A major accident on the frontstretch involving Aaron Wickersheim, Bud Lynn, Chad Hohn and Gary Janke in the Limited Late Model feature slowed things down. Hohn’s car wound up on its roof, while Janke’s car came to a stop on top of Lynn’s and Wickersheim’s cars. Wickersheim had to be cut out from his car, and was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

When the race was restarted, Jeff Curtin took the lead and immediately began to pull away from the field. Six laps into the race, Ritchie made an outside pass to move from fourth to second. Ritchie then began to track down Curtin, but Curtin had a big lead and was in control of the race. Ritchie, Tony Wudstrack, Larry Drafahl and Luke Uttecht followed Curtin across the line.

Racing action will continue next Saturday night, with the action starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the Shawano Speedway, visit www.shawanospeedway.com
