Seymour, OOOOHHHH What A Night
Seymour, July 2- A record regular season field of 158 cars checked in and ran
290 hard laps on a very smooth, fast track Sunday night at the Seymour
Speedway. All this before the third largest crowd in N.E.W. DIRT history. The
night was capped by a big fireworks show to celebrate the 4 th of July
weekend.
The Street Stocks started the feature portion of the show with Jerry Stueber
setting the pace with Dan Rohm, Alan Schluetter, Brian Koch and Derek Lecker
behind. Defending champion, Jeremy Wiitala moved into second following a lap 5
caution and took the lead on lap 7. Current point leader, Harley Simon, moved
into second on lap 8 and after another caution, took over the top spot. Simon
was hugging the inside and Wiitala was running high nut Simon was able to open
a lead. Bob Czarapata moved into the runner up spot on lap 16 and was starting
to close on the leader, but ran out of laps leaving Simon to claim his first
feature win of the season. Czarapata took second his first night back out in
the Street Stock division. Wiitala was third followed by Chaz Van Ooyen, Eric
Arneson and Mike Woodke.
The IMCVA Stock Cars were next with Jon T Wolf grabbing the top spot early
followed by Shawn Wagner, Darren Otto, Jamie Colwell, Bob Schampers and Rod
Snellenberger. Snellenberger moved through traffic and pulled into the lead on
lap 8. Wagner followed into the runner up spot. Snellenberger was running low
and Wagner high but the gap stayed the same between the pair to the finish
with Snellenberger winning his second division feature of the season. Wagner
took second his second night out. The race for third back was very tight with
Kyle Fredrick edging Jesse Colwell for third. Jeremy Christians was fourth and
Wolf finished the run in sixth.
Tim Van De Hei led the opening lap of the IMCA Mod feature with former 6 time
champ, Brian Mullen taking the top spot on lap 2. Following a lap 4 caution,
the race ran to the finish, with Mullen hooking up on the outside and pulled
away as the rest of the field sorted out behind. Jared Siefert, Danny Deau,
Lance Arneson and Benji LaCrosse were stacked behind. Siefert held second with
LaCrosse moving into third on lap 7. The pair were running the low line while
Mullen maintained his lead up high. Just after half way, LaCrosse decided to
move up and found the right groove to power into the runner up spot, but face
a huge gap to catch the leader. LaCrosse was slowly closing the gap but over
the final 5 laps, focused in on the leader and like a pro fisherman, reeled in
the catch, pulling right behind as the white flag appeared. LaCrosse stayed
right behind until the final turn when he drove to the inside out of turn 4
and flashed across the line side by side with Mullen and took his third
feature win of the season by inches. Siefert was third with Russ Reinwald
fourth. Van De Hei finished fifth with Jay Matthias rounding out the top 6.
A strong field of 18 Wissota Late Models took the green for the feature with
Nick Anvelink taking charge from the front row followed by Rod Snellenberger,
Tim Buhler, Terry Anvelink, Justin Ritchie and Randy Markwardt. Buhler moved
into second and was challenging Anvelink hard for the lead when a caution
slowed the pace on lap 7. Terry Anvelink moved into the runner up spot on the
restart and was hounding son Nick on the inside line with Nick running high.
Nick was still in charge when a series of cautions slowed the race on lap 15,
but was able to hold off dad for his first feature win of the season. Buhler
took third. Jeremie Hedrick made his first appearance in the late mode and
drove a strong race from 12th to finish fourth. Justin Ritchie and Tom
Naeyaert rounded out the top six.
Matt Oreskovich came from mid pack in the 4 cylinder main to take the lead
away from Alan Gast on lap 2, and spent the rest of the race running from the
field despite several cautions that kept the rest of the field packed behind.
Nick Everard led the field after Oreskovich through the middle part of the
race before James VanDeBogart took second with 5 laps left. Oreskovich took
the checker for his fourth straight division feature win and would have taken
over the point lead with the win, but refused a post race claim and was
disqualified, giving the win to VanDeBogart. Kevin Birr ended up second with
Phil Martzahl third. Ian Lassanske, Everard and R.J. Liegeois rounded out the
top six.
Next week will be Scout and 4H night at the races. All scouts and leaders in
uniform will be admitted Free.
