Kudick Wins First Of Season In Street Stocks At Seymour
Seymour, June 11-A beautiful night and a fast paced program highlighted racing
action at the Seymour Speedway Sunday night.
The Street Stocks took the smooth tacky track for their feature with Mitch
Landvick setting the pace for the first 2 laps before Paul White took the
point on lap 3. Defending division champ, Jeremy Wiitala moved up to lead the
way through lap 8. Current point leader, Jerry Kope took over then and looked
like he would rule the rest of the way until a lone caution slowed the race on
lap 17, setting up a 3 lap dash. Kyle Kudick made a move alongside the leader
on the restart and was able to take over the lead and hold on for his first
feature win of the season. Kope finished second followed by Wiitala. Brian
Kock, Harley Simon and Eric Arneson. The finish and point standings shuffled
following the race when Kope initially accepted an engine claim, but later
denied it, He was DQ’d and the finish moved up a position which put David
Hoerning into the top six. Simon moves to the top of the early season point
standings.
A couple of early race cautions kept the IMCA Stock car main tight with
Derrick Bruechert leading the way for the first 3 laps. After a restart on lap
4, Tony Schlei moved to the front and started to pull away from the field
battling for second. Jamie Colwell, Larry Karcz, Jr, Jesse Colwell and Charlie
Kroll were in the bunch.
The race went to the finish with Schlei able to maintain and actually extend
his lead. The Colwell brothers battled for second to the finish with Jesse
able to wrestle the runner up spot away from Jamie. Karcz, Mike Pierrard and
Troy Jerovetz rounded out the top six.
The win for Schlei was his first career in the division, after spending the
past couple years as a top Hobby Stock driver in the area.
The IMCA Mods were next up with a rookie contender, Shawn Kilgore setting the
pace for the first 3 laps before Jarrod Anvelink powered by on the outside.
Anvelink was running near the wall and was pulling away from the field. A spin
on lap 9 caused the first caution with Anvelink again going high to hold the
lead after the restart. One lap later, Anvelink made contact with the turn
three and four barrier which forced him to back off a bit and allowed Chad
Wilcox to take over the top spot. Jared Siefert, Kilgore, Benji LaCrosse and
Bill Lemmens all slipped by Anvelink before a final caution on lap 12.
Siefert powered into the top spot on the restart on the inside and LaCrosse,
the winner of the first 2 features this season, took the high line into second
and alongside of the leader. The pair ran side by side and swapped the lead
several times over the final laps and a slight slip by Siefert in turn 2 on
lap 17 gave LaCrosse the lead which looked like it would lead to a third
straight win. Anvelink worked his way back into third with Paul Parker moving
into the top 4.
On the final lap, LaCrosse entered turn three and the car broke lose. He was
able to gather the car before spinning out, but Siefert was able to sneak by
on the inside and win his first feature of the season here. Anvelink was also
able to get by to secure second just ahead of LaCrosse. Wilcox came home in
4th with Kilgore taking 5th. Brian Joske rounded out the top six.
The WISSOTA Late Model main was anon stop event with Randy Markwardt and
Justin Ritchie starting at the front and running side by side for the first 12
laps. The pair swapped the top spot several times and opened a lead aver the
field. Pete Parker moved into the third spot on lap 5 and slowly moved up
behind the lead pair. ON lap 13, Markwardt finally got an edge running the
high grove and took possession of the top spot. Both Markwardt and Ritchie
were looking for their first ever Seymour feature wins, and with five laps
remaining, the all time feature winner, Parker, started to reel in the
leaders. It took 2 laps to move by Ritchie into the runner up spot and was
right behind Markwardt as they picked up the white flag. Markwardt continued
in the high line and as they moved into turn three for the final time. Parker
was able to get to the inside of the leader. They were even out of turn 4, but
Parker edged Markwardt for his first feature win here since Sept 6, 2004 and
his 114th career Seymour feature win. Markwardt was a close second with
Ritchie holding off Nick Anvelink for third place. Point leader, Tim Buhler,
took fifth just ahead of Terry Anvelink.
J.J. Anderson set the pace for the first three laps of the 4 Cylinder feature.
Matt Theys took over and led through a final caution period on lap 6. ON the
restart, Matt Oreskovich moved to the top spot and began to pull away from the
rest of the field. Tim Jorgensen moved into the runner up spot on lap 8 but
could not close the gap on the leader. Oreskovich picked up his second
straight feature win with Jorgensen taking second with Chris Quaintance taking
third. Andy Kleczka, Joe Schwister and Anderson rounded out the top six.
The 4 Cylinder Bump and Run event was won by the team of Tim Jorgensen and
Mike Krueger.
Next week Mechanics Races will close the night.
