LaCrosse Wins First At Seymour
Seymour, August 7- Entering the final month of racing for 2005, the new track
has been showing signs of the promise for the premier track in Northeastern
Wisconsin. The track was in the best shape of the season with 130 cars putting
on a fast paced program Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway.
The IMCA Stock Cars started the feature portion of the show with Rick Dix
leading the opening lap before Steve Kastning led the pack until lap 5. Rod
Snellenberger took over at that point and despite a couple cautions, was able
to maintain a lead and run to his second feature win of the year.. The race
was for the runner up spot with Kastning, Chaz Van Ooyen, Jr, Larry Karcz, Jr,
Kyle Fredrick, Jamie Colwell, point leader Jason Czarapata and Steve Frees
running tight together to the finish.
Following Snellenberger at the finish was Colwell, Czarapata, Van Ooyen,
Fredrick, Karcz and Kastning. The second place finish by Colwell moved him
into the point lead by one point for the first time this season.
Thom Terrien grabbed hold of the lead in the Street Stock headliner with Aaron
Melchert, Paul White, Frank Paul Charlie Van Ooyen and Darci Czarapata
bunching up behind battling for second. Terrien was able to open a lead until
a lone caution slowed the race on lap 11. Melchert, David Hoerning, Van Ooyen,
Czarapata and White were now right behind the leader. A couple laps after the
restart found Hoerning at the front and pulling away to his second feature win
of the season. The battle remained tight for the second spot with Melchert
edging Terrien for second. Point leader, Jeremy Wiitala, fought through the
pack to nip Van Ooyen at the line for fourth place. Harley Simon came from the
back of the lineup to finish in 6th place.
A.J. Diemel started the Maplewood Shell/Ponderosa WISSOTA Late Model main on
the pole and settled into the top spot at the drop of the green, .followed by
Terry Anvelink, Tim Buhler, Gordie Seegert, Nick Anvelink and Ron Berna. A
lone caution on lap 3 when Anvelink looped his car in turn one bunched the
pack. After the restart, Buhler pressure the leader from the outside while
Diemel hugged the inside. The race behind was close as well for the rest of
the way. After mid way, Diemel started running into traffic and was able to
open a lead on Buhler and went on to his 3rd feature win of the year. Buhler
settled for the runner up spot with Nick Anvelink taking third. Troy
Springborn worked his way into fourth followed by Seegert and Tim Lemirande.
The Budweiser IMCA Modified main took the green with Jamie Schmidt leading the
way followed by Scott Mullen, Joel Schmit, Lance Arneson, David Werbelow and
Jarrod Anvelink. Mullen worked on the leader, finally working inside on lap 6
to take the top spot. At the mid point of the race Mullen was slightly ahead
of the field with Schmidt holding second. Benji LaCrosse quietly worked his
way from 16th place into third, Art Siefert, Dennis Young and point leader
Jared Siefert were right behind. A lap 12 caution bunched the field up on the
leader. LaCrosse was in second and it took him 2 laps to take over the top
spot from Mullen inside in turn 3 and 4. Another caution on lap 15 kept the
field bunched on the new leader.
LaCrosse started to pull away a bit on the restart, with Schmidt pressuring
Mullen for second. Jared Siefert and Danny Deau joined the battle for second.
Siefert was able to use the inside and take the runner up spot on lap 18. As
the pack made their way through turn 3 and 4 to take the white flag, LaCrosse
was a couple lengths ahead of Siefert. Mullen was in third and slid up a bit
in turn 3 and was tagged by Deau. The leader had taken the white, and the
ensuing caution ended the race one lap short, with LaCrosse taking his first
checker here this season in only his second time this season. Siefert added
appoint to his lead with the runner up finish. Deau took third with Schmidt
taking fourth, his best run of the year. Joel Schmit was fifth and Chris
Engels rounded out the top six.
Tony Everard led the opening lap of the 4 Cylinder main with Tim Jorgenson
taking the top spot on lap 2 and opened up a lead on the field. Greg Banker
moved into second on lap 5 and had his attempt to catch the leader made easier
on lap 8 when a wheel broke on Jorgenson’s car, ending his night and handing
the lead over to Banker. Banker opened his own lead after the restart and led
to claim his first feature win of the season. The pack was tight behind with
Everard, Matt Maleport , Brad Willoquette, Jeff Kropp and point leader, Matt
Oreskovich behind. Oreskovich fought his way from the back of the field after
a lap 2 visit to change a tire, and worked into second place with 4 laps left.
He was able to close on the leader, but not make a run at the lead. Maleport
took third over Everard with Willoquette and Kropp rounding out the top six.
Amanda Johnson of Seymour was the winner in the Powder Puff race.
Next Sunday night will be Big Wheel night for the kids.
