LaCrosse Wins Seymour Mod Feature
Seymour, August 22- The track was smooth, tacky and fast for an exciting night
of racing action at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway Sunday night.
Brett Wenzel paced the opening lap of the Bay-Tek IMCA Stock Car feature with
Charlie Van Ooyen leading the second circuit. A caution on lap 3 allowed Larry
Karcz,Jr to set up the leader for a takeover on the restart. Following right
behind were Rod Snellenberger, Jeremy Christians and point leader, Brandon
Czarapata. By lap 7, the trio had dropped Karcz back to 4th and set the stage
for a thrilling race for the lead. Christians and Czarapata are locked in a
tight 2 point battle for the track title, Snellenberger is always tough in
front. The trio battled back and forth running three wide several times
through the tri oval. Despite a couple of late race cautions, the action
stayed hot at the front with Snellenberger holding on to win his 4th division
feature of the season. Christians gained one point on the leader by taking
second with Czarapata third. Shawn Wagner, Travis Van Straten and Tyler
Rassmussen all snuck by Karcz after the final restart to round out the top 6
finishers. The point race will be settled next week as the division wraps up
their point season because of Boone the following week. Czarapata holds a 370
to 368 margin over Christians. Czarapata is the defending champion and
Christians is a former 2 time champ.
Troy Wilson grabbed the lead in the Street Stock main and built a lead over
the first 9 laps when a caution bunched the fields for the only time. This put
Paul White right on his bumper for the restart, followed by point leader,
Darren Otto, Mike Pierrard, Phil Hiles and Shawn Van Ooyen.
On the restart, Otto pulled high and took over the lead with Hiles also taking
the opening and moved into the runner up spot. Like the past couple weeks, the
pair pulled away and ran side by side for most of the last half of the race,
swapping the lead several times. Over the final 5 laps, lapped traffic came
into the picture but Otto was able to maintain the lead and picked up his 3rd
straight feature flag of the season, his 5th overall. Hiles was a close second
followed by Wilson, his best finish of the season. Brian Koch edged White for
fourth. Van Ooyen rounded out the top six.
A field of 21 cars took the green for the Maplewood Shell WISSOTA Late Model
feature. Gary Nelson led the opening lap with Tom Naeyaert flying on the
outside line into the lead on lap 2. Gordie Seegert moved into the runner up
spot just before a lap 6 caution, and on the restart pulled into the lead.
Doug Blashe also joined the leader in a great three way battle for the lead
over the next 6 laps.
A final caution on lap 11 set up a 9 lap sprint to the finish. Naeyaert again
powered into the lead and Terry Anvelink pulled into third place. Naeyaert was
able to hold off Blashe and Anvelink over the final laps to record his 2nd
feature win of the season. Point leader, Tim Buhler, finished the run in
fourth with Seegert taking fifth.. Randy Markwardt rounded out the top 6.
Joel Schmit led the opening 6 circuits of the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature.
Benji LaCrosse started the event in row 5 and hooked up on the outside and
powered into the top spot on lap 7. Jared Siefert followed into second on the
next lap. A lone caution flew on lap 9, and on the restart, the pair pulled
away from the field running a side by side battle for several laps, with
LaCrosse able to hold the lead to the finish to collect his third feature win
of the season. Siefert was right behind at the finish line. Brad Rohloff
finished in third place. Point leader, Scott Mullen, started the final 5 laps
in 8th place, but made a dash to the front edging Danny Deau for fourth place
at the finish line. Dennis Young took sixth.
The win by LaCrosse and the 4th by Mullen moves LaCrosse to within 9 points,
366 – 357, of his first Tri Oval track title entering the final Mod point
night next week.
Greg Banker took the 4 Cylinder feature lead at the start, and despite one
caution, was able to drive off with his second feature win of the season. Ben
Daoust held second until the caution on lap 13, and over the final 2 laps, Tom
Schmidt was able to wrestle the runner up spot away at the finish line. D.J.
Jorgenson, Matt Oershovich and Tim Jorgenson round out the top six.
Next week will be the final point night for both IMCA divisions, because IMCA
starts their National in Boone on Labor Day the following week. The Late
Model, Streets and 4 Cylinders all complete their point season on a busy Labor
Day weekend at the Tri Oval, on Sunday September 5th. The season will close
the next day, Monday, September 6th, with the Tri Oval Changeover. The WDLMA
division will be in to close the season. All other divisions will be involved
as well, but they will be non-sanctioned events with NO claims.
Advanced tickets can be purchased through this week from your favorite drivers
to save $2.00 at the gate on Monday. Racing on Monday will begin earlier, at
5PM.
