Dart, Junio, Kickbusch, And Thornton Victorious At Thunderhill
By Greg Aregoni
Saturday Night, May 12th-“Felix” Todd Dart came out victorious in his race
long duel with Billy Lemieux in the IMCA Modified feature race at the Forest
County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway.
Matt Junio picked up his first win of the season in the IMCA Stockcar feature
race.
Keith Kickbusch improved his point lead after winning his second feature of
the season in the IMCA Hobby Stock A main event.
Aaron Thornton is now 3 for 3 on the season in Street Stock feature action as
he won in convincing fashion.
Mark Derenne led the opening seven laps of the IMCA Stockcar feature until a
John Anschutz spin grouped up the field. Troy Muench used the restart to
jump to the lead in turn one. A three-wide battle for the lead ensued
between Muench, Cory Cochart, and Matt Junio. Cochart grabbed the lead
at the halfway point but quickly relinquished the lead to Junio. Junio
grabbed the lead using the outside and never looked back picking up his first
win of the season. Junio was followed by Charlie Kroll, Muench, Bernie
Reinhardt, and Mark Derenne at the finish line.
Billy Lemieux looked like the man to beat early on in the IMCA Modified
feature. Lemieux wrestled the lead away from Kevin Sternard and quickly pulled
away. Todd Dart diced through traffic and quickly made his bid for the
lead. Dart used the inside lane to make the pass on Lemiuex for the lead
on lap 12. Dart started to pull away from Lemieux with eight laps to
go. Lemieux wouldn’t back down as he tried the extreme highline and
started to catch Dart. Lemieux and Dart made their way into lapped
traffic where Dart grabbed the advantage. As they came to the line for
the finish Dart was able to nip Lemieux at the line for his first win of the
season. Lemieux finished second followed by Benji LaCrosse, Chris Derenne, and
Randy Lemieux jr.
Tim Czarneski and John Sternard locked horns for the lead early on in the
Street Stock feature. Sternard took the lead out of turn two and began
to dominate the race. Aaron Thornton decided to try the topside of the
track which ended up paying off for the veteran. Thornton ran down
Sternard and made the pass on the highside of the track. Thornton would go on
to hold off Sternard to continue his pursuit of perfection on the
season. Sternard held on for second with Czarneski, Scott Reinhardt, and
Dennis Weidner trailing at the checkers.
Jeff Lautenbach used the outside front row starting spot to pull away from the
rest of the field on the start in the IMCA Hobby Stock A main. Eddie Anschutz
and Keith Kickbusch made their way to second and third by shooting through the
field. Anschutz and Kickbusch caught Lautenbach and the trio went three
wide for the lead. Kickbusch grabbed the advantage on the low-line and
cruised to his second straight feature win. Lautenbach edged out Anschutz for
second with Marcus Moede fourth and Frank Paul fifth.
Dave Budzban won the race long duel with Dave Davister to win his first career
IMCA Northern Sportmod Feature. The IMCA Northern Sportmod division is
new to the track and will race the rest of the season for National, State and
track points.
Kenny Malcore led every lap in winning the 15 lap 4 cylinder main event.
Jody Cornelius did a barrel roll coming out of turn two but was fine.
Brian Belleau scored his second straight feature win in the Bomber class.
Next Saturday Night Baylake Bank will bring the racing action to the Forest
County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway. There will be a kids coin drop at
intermission. The tracks website is www.racethunderhill.com.
