Anvelink Pockets $2,000 At Thunderhill
By Greg Aregoni
Saturday Sept 2nd- Nick Anvelink has pocketed over $10,000 from Thunderhill in
the last 5 years in race winnings. Anvelink picked up $2,000 Saturday Night in
the win. He passed Justin Hirt on lap 9 and led the final 31 laps to pick up
his fourth feature in five races at Thunderhill.
Rookie Shawn Kilgore picked up his fourth Modified feature win of the season.
Kilgore also won the rookie of the year title.
Eugene Gregorich led all 15 laps to win the Stockcar feature. Gregorich won
the IMCA Stockcar title this year.
Runner-up in the points, Eddie Anschutz, picked up the feature win in the
Hobby Stocks. The win was his 6th of the season.
Von Eytcheson led every lap in winning the Street Stock feature. Eytcheson is
now a two-time champion.
Eugene Gregorich started on the inside of row 2 and quickly jumped to the lead
in the Stockcar feature. Gregorich passed Willie DeGrave in turns 3 and 4 on
lap 1. Gregorich would continue to pull away from the field. Tony Bouche made
a three-wide pass on DeGrave and Bernie Reinhardt on lap 5. A tire in the
middle of the track caused the caution to fly on lap 6. Gregorich got another
good restart and pulled away from the field. Don Aregoni Jr. spun around with
five laps to go to setup a dash for cash. Gregorich would again pull away and
pick up his fourth feature of the season. Tony Bouche was second followed by
Reinhardt, DeGrave and Todd Vlies.
Von Eytcheson started on the outside of row 1 and jumped out to a big lead
early on in the Street Stock feature. Aaron Thornton made his was to second
with Harley Simon in third. The only caution happened on lap 6 when Andrew
Schnable made hard contact going into the turn 1 wall. He was alright. After
the restart, Thornton was right on the back bumper of Eytcheson. Heading into
turn three, Thornton’s motor blew up. Eytcheson cruised to victory with
Simon, Rod Solem, Tim Czarneski, and Scott Reinhardt rounding out the top 5.
Czarneski started 14th on the field and worked his was to fourth. Czarneski
was driving Dave DeGrave’s IMCA Hobby Stock.
Dan Rataczjak led the opening laps of the Modified feature before M.J. Hintz
grabbed the lead down low. Hintz took over the lead on lap three but was
quickly run down by Shawn Kilgore. Kilgore made his move down low, and on lap
8 became the new leader. Kilgore would continue to lead all the way to the
checkers. Hintz ran down Kilgore but could never get to within 3 car lengths.
Kilgore won his 4th feature of the season followed by Hintz, James Tebon, Mike
Wedelstadt, and Rataczjak.
Justin Hirt battled the lead away from Gordie Seegert Jr, on the opening laps
of the Wisconsin Dirt Late Model feature. Hirt would continue to lead until
Nick Anvelink found good bite down low and caught Hirt. He made the pass on
lap 9 and pulled away from the rest of the field. A loan caution on lap 25
kept the field close. Anvelink again pulled away only to have Pete Parker hot
on his tail. Parker was able to stay within five car lengths but never any
closer. Anvelink went on to pick up his 4th win in the last 5 WDLMA races at
Thunderhill. Parker was second followed by Russ Scheffler, Al Atkinson, and
Justin Hirt.
Eddie Anschutz led every lap in the Hobby Stock feature to pick up his 6th
feature win of the season.
Dan Merkle swept action in the Bombers.
Kip Burlo held off a hard-charging Tony Everard to win the 4 cylinder feature.
