Parker Grabs $2,000 With Win At Thunderhill
By Greg Aregoni
Wednesday Night August 9th- Pete Parker led the last 29 laps to pick up the
victory in the $2,000.00 to win Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Feature.
The Skyrocket was in flight and in victory lane for the first time in the IMCA
Modifieds. Kevin Sternard picked up his first career Tri-County Heating IMCA
Modified Feature event.
Point leader Eugene Gregorich improved on his lead in the Budweiser IMCA
Stockcars with his win on Wednesday Night.
Keith Kickbusch won his fifth feature of the season in the Olson Fabrication
IMCA Hobby Stocks on a last corner pass on Joe White.
Shawn Havel led the opening laps of the Budweiser IMCA Stockcar feature
through a series of cautions. Havel would continue to lead up until the
halfway point when Jeff Vlies shot to the inside and grabbed the lead. Vlies
quickly shot to the bottom and began to run right next to the tires. Point
leader Eugene Gregorich used this to his advantage. With all the cars down
low, Gregorich went to the outside and started picking off positions.
Gregorich got to the outside of Vlies with two laps to go and pulled off the
pass. Gregorich would hold on for his 3rd win of the season followed by Vlies,
Greg Gretz, Craig Paque and Havel.
Kevin Sternard put on a dominating performance in the Tri-County Heating IMCA
Modified feature. Sternard started on the pole and never looked back. Sternard
had his hands full with both Shawn Kilgore and Sean Jerovetz early on but
eventually pulled away. Benji LaCrosse made the pass on both Kilgore and
Jerovetz with seven laps to go. LaCrosse was able to real in Sternard slightly
but ran out of time. Sternard picked up his first career IMCA Modified feature
win with LaCrosse second. Kilgore, Jerovetz, and Eric Scribner rounded out the
top five.
Brandon Peterson led the opening four laps of the Olson Fabrication IMCA Hobby
Stock feature before Jeff Lautenbach made a bid for the lead. Lautenbach
secured the lead on lap 6 but was quickly reeled in by Joe White. White made
the pass with five laps to go and seemed to be on his way to victory but Keith
Kickbusch had other thoughts. Kickbusch was able to catch White with two laps
to go. Kickbusch had good momentum coming to the white flag but couldn’t
make the pass. Heading into turn three Kickbusch got a great run with White on
the outside. They drag raced to the checkers with Kickbusch taking the
victory. The win was Kickbusch’s fifth of the season. White was second
followed by Lautenbach, Eddie Anschutz, and Peterson.
Todd Jensema led the opening lap of the WDLMA 30 lap feature event. Pete
Parker grabbed the lead on the inside and never looked back during the caution
free race. Jensema would settle for second with Nick Anvelink third. Tom
Naeyart was fifth. The lead group lapped most of the field. Parker picked up
$2,000 for the win. Parker was honored by Bryan “Woody” Wodack at
intermission for everything he has stood for in the World of Late Model
racing. Parker was recently inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of
Fame.
