Siefert, Gregorich, Kickbusch, Thornton Win At Thunderhill
By Greg Aregoni
Saturday June 24th- Fighting rain in the forecast and two rain delays; The
Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway was still able to get Dairy Queen
Night in. “I want to thank all the fans, drivers, and crews for sticking
with us throughout night. They all worked together and we appreciate it.”
Bryan “Woody” Wodack, promoter of Thunderhill.
Green Bay’s Jared Siefert took the lead halfway through the IMCA Modified
Feature and fought off Benji Lacrosse to pick up the win. Siefert made the
weekend perfect so far by also winning Friday night in Luxemburg.
Eugene Gregorich won his second IMCA Stockcar feature of the season. He also
won opening night.
Keith Kickbusch had a clean sweep weekend in the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Kickbusch
captured the point lead with his victory.
Aaron Thornton survived a wild last lap in winning the Street Stock feature.
The win was Thornton’s third on the season.
Rick Mahlberg set the pace early on in the IMCA Stockcar feature. Point leader
Jeff Vlies caught Mahlberg on lap three but contact between the two sent both
cars spinning into the infield. Eugene Gregorich inherited the lead on the
restart but with Rod Snellenberger and Greg Gretz right behind. Gregorich was
able to hold off both drivers in picking up his second win of the season. With
the win Gregorich inherited the point lead. Snellenberger was second followed
by Gretz, Mike Wietor, and Dave Davister.
Brent Hanson led the opening two laps of the IMCA Modified feature before Rick
Lemieux grabbed the top spot with a move to the inside on lap 3. Lemieux led
the next three laps before Jared Siefert made a bid for the lead. Siefert
snatched the lead on the high side with Benji Lacrosse following right behind.
Lacrosse made many attempts at the pass but could never pull it off. Siefert
pulled away on the last few laps and picked up the win. Lacrosse was second
followed by Dave Zeitler. Randy Lemieux jr, and Sean Jerovetz.
Thom Therrien looked like he was the man to beat in the Street Stock feature.
Therrien jumped out to the big lead and was going relatively unchallenged.
Aaron Thornton and Von Eytcheson made their was through traffic. The duo
caught Therrien and made the pass on him on lap 10. Thornton continued to lead
with Eytcheson right behind him. With two laps to go, Thornton shot to the
inside of the lapped car James Iverson. Iverson came down and made contact
with Thornton. Eytcheson and Thornton crossed the white flag and then the
caution flew for the Iverson spin. Going back to the last completed lap
Thornton was the winner followed by Eytcheson, Therrien, Tim Czarneski, and
Dave Baenen.
Chad Kominski led the opening six laps of the IMCA Hobby Stock feature before
Roger Laviolette made the pass on the inside for the lead. A caution bottled
up the field on lap 8. Keith Kickbusch moved into the runner-up spot and
started challenging Laviolette for the lead. With two laps to go, Kickbusch
got the opening he needed going into turn one. He made the pass and went on to
win his second straight feature at Thunderhill. He was followed by Laviolette,
Jarred Van Lannen, Jeff Lautenbach, and Kominski.
Rob Waechter Jr, passed Mike Jost with two laps to go in the Bomber feature to
pick up his first career feature win.
Jeremy Dubois passed race-long leader Tony Everard on the final corner to pick
up the 4 cylinder feature win.
Next week is Olson Fabrication night at Thunderhill. There will be fireworks
after the races. The track’s website is www.racethunderhill.com.
