2006 Season Slate Set At Thunderhill
March 14, 2006 - Sturgeon Bay, WI

A revamped autumn line-up and new driver rewards highlight the 2006 racing schedule at the Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay. Promoter Bryan "Woody" Wodack made the announcement this week.

Six divisions will race on a weekly basis, with the opener set for Saturday night April 29. Three classes sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA), the Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks, will once again anchor the show, with Street Stocks, Bombers and 4 Cylinders completing the card.

Four special events will add variety to the season. The powerful cars of the Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association (WDLMA) will make two stops in Sturgeon Bay, the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) returns for the second year in a row and a two-day Fall Classic will bring the season to a close in September.

Wodack, now in his fourth year at the helm of the Door County track, is not only excited about his race program, but is already looking forward to what will happen once its complete.

"One of my goals is to always try and pay back the race teams that show support for the track all year long", Wodack said. "Thats why Im really thrilled with what we've been able to put together for this year's banquet." Wodack already has the budget secured for a point fund, but will also be handing out two significant contingency awards come banquet time.

"With the Potawatomi Community on board again this year, we've established a point fund worth $10,000" he said. "To add to that, somebody will go home that night the proud owner of a brand new 20' enclosed trailer, and somebody else is going to get a brand new engine."

Former track champ and current IMCA modified regular Sean Jerovetz and S&B Trailer Sales of Suamico will sponsor the trailer give-away. The short block engine will come from Extreme Enterprises. To qualify, a driver needs to run 80% of the completed Thunderhill shows.

22 nights of racing are scheduled, including 17 regular programs and the specials. The first special will mark the return of the USMTS on Wednesday, June 7th. Jon Tesch of Watertown, SD won the 2004 event, with two track regulars, Jerovetz (4th) and Jeremy Jacobs (9th), placing in the top ten.

The Late Models of the WDLMA will once again open the Door County Fair on Wednesday, August 9th. Mods, Stocks and Hobbies will also compete for season points. The Late Models return Saturday, September 2nd with the Mods and Stocks for a Pre-Boone special.

The season finale will be a first for racing in Northeastern Wisconsin, and could produce the largest field of cars ever to grace the pits at Sturgeon Bay. Slated for September 22 & 23, Thunderhill's first Fall Classic will be run in conjunction with the popular Chilton Fall Classic the following weekend.  The Chilton event annually draws 300 plus race teams.

"Merle Lisowe is back with us this year to work on our track, and he's a member of the group that promotes the Chilton special", Wodack said. "We put this deal together to provide special bonus payments to teams that compete both weekends. This thing could be huge."

Fans will also benefit from several promotions and prize drawings throughout the season. The weekly Potawatomi Lucky Five contest will be back, as well as the bike-a-week give-away. Other highlights include a $600 coin drop for kids on May 20th sponsored by Baylake Bank and the Econo Foods Buck Burger night on June 17th.

Fans can get a free sneak peak on Saturday, April 22nd, as the Raceway will host a car show and open practice session. For a look at the complete 2006 schedule, or for more information, visit the track's website at www.racethunderhill.com.
