Lacrosse Wins Boyou Clash At The HILL
By Greg Aregoni
Saturday September 17th- Benji Lacrosse backed up his IMCA Super National Win
last weekend by winning the Boyou Clash Saturday Night at Thunderhill.
Lacrosse passed Sean Jerovetz on lap 15 to take the lead, and led the last 20
laps, through a series of cautions, to pick up the $1,000.00 pay day. The most
important part of the night, however, was that all of the proceeds went to the
Brett Favre Fourward Foundation. "I wanted to do something to help the
victims of the Katrina catastrophe. I want to thank all of the fans, and
drivers for showing up and supporting the cause. I also would like to give a
huge thanks to all of the employees for donating their time." Bryan
"Woody" Wodack, promoter of Thunderhill.
In IMCA Stockcar action, Shawn Kilgore used his outside front row starting
spot to his advantage, which helped him win the 25 lap feature, and picked up
$500.00. Von Eytcheson started inside row number two, and was never challenged
in winning the 15 lap Street Stock feature. Eddie Anschutz started on the pole
and never looked back in winning the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Greg Banker
flew away from the rest of the pack and picked up the 4-cylinder feature win.
Joe Hegnet and Karl Laughlin teamed up in one car, to pick up the Bomber
feature win.
Von Eytcheson used an inside second row starting spot to grab the lead coming
out of turn two on the first lap. Eytcheson grabbed the lead and took off.
Aaron Thornton quickly made his way to second, but was never able to stay with
Eytcheson. The tandem ran first and second with Corey Haen and Kevin Charles
to battle for third. The lone caution came on lap 13, setting up a two lap
dash for the win. Eytcheson got a great jump, and was never challenged in
winning the Street Stock Feature. He was followed by Thornton, Haen, Charles,
and James Iverson at the checkers. Eytcheson also won the Street Stock Slam
two weeks ago.
An all-star front row had Wisconsin IMCA Stockcar State Champion Jason
Czarapata, and Luxemburg and Thunderhill Stockcar Champion Shawn Kilgore
leading the field at the green flag. Kilgore used the outside to grab the
lead. Czarapata was able to stay within five car lengths of Kilgore, but was
never able to catch him. The lone caution came when Ryan Lemieux blew his
motor on lap 13. Kilgore got a good jump after the caution, and flew to
victory all by himself. Kilgore picked up $500.00 for his efforts. Czarapata,
Bernie Reinhardt, Charlie Kroll, and Patrick Davister rounded out the top
five.
Jeremie Hedrick made the trip from Shawano an early success by winning his
heat race, which appeared to carry over to the IMCA Modified feature.
"Captain" Jeremie grabbed the lead on lap 1, and started to pull
away from the rest of the field. Hedrick was able to maintain the lead, even
with having a push between turns three and four. Sean Jerovetz grabbed the
second spot, and started after the leader. He caught Hedrick, and on lap 9
made the pass down low in turn three. Jerovetz led until the caution flew for
a wreck between Hedrick and Jeremy Jacobs. On the restart Benji Lacrosse
started third, and jumped to the outside of Jerovetz. Lacrosse had good
momentum, and grabbed the lead coming out of turn two on lap 15. Lacrosse kept
the lead by about two car lengths over Jerovetz. A series of cautions kept the
field close. Brian Mullen made his way to second with fifteen laps to go.
Mullen tried high and low to try and pass Lacrosse, but could never make the
pass. Lacrosse crossed the line first picking up $1,000. "There was a lot
of expectations coming into tonight. I just came home from my IMCA Super
Nationals win. It was awesome to come here and greet the fans before the
races." Benji Lacrosse after the feature win. He was followed at the
checkers by Mullen, Todd Dart, Jay Matthias, and Jerovetz.
Eddie Anschutz drew the pole for both the Heat and Feature, and earned the
clean-sweep. Anschutz grabbed the lead on lap 1, and flew and away from the
rest of the field. Keith Kickbusch had the second spot, but was never able to
catch Anschutz. Anschutz picked up the feature win followed by Kickbusch, Tom
Brumlic, Dave DeGrave, and Jeff Lautenbach.
Greg Banker led from green flag to checker flag and picked up the 4-cylinder
feature win. Banker beat Tyler Smith and Brad Williquette.
Joe Hegnet operated the wheel and Karl Laughlin operated the gas and brake,
and won the bomber feature event.
This was the final event of the 2005 season.
