Eytcheson Takes 7th Feature At Thunderhill
By Greg Aregoni

Saturday Night, August 20th, Sturgeon Bay, WI- Von Eytcheson waited for the right time, and sprung to the lead with 4 laps to go in the Street Stock feature, to capture his 7th feature of the season.  With the win Eytcheson regained the point lead.

Shawn Kilgore used the highline to pass Rick Mahlberg, and take the lead to win his sixth feature of the season, in the IMCA Stockcars.  Jared Siefert passed Scott Boyea halfway through the IMCA Modified event to capture his second feature win of the season.  Eddie Anschutz improved his point lead with one week left in the season, with his IMCA Hobby Stock feature win.  Jeremy Dubois won his second feature in a row in the 4-cylinder class.  Maynard Hegnet won the Bomber feature.

Dennis Wiedner led the first six laps, through a series of cautions, in the Street Stock feature, before Scott Reinhardt overtook him and Aaron Thornton with a three-wide pass for the lead.  Reinhardt continued to be very dominating riding the high-side of the track.  Eytcheson made his move through the pack and caught Reinhardt.  Eytcheson made his move down low on Reinhardt and secured the lead.  Eytcheson went on to take his seventh trophy of the season and the point lead.  Eytcheson was followed at the checkers by Reinhardt, Thornton, James Iverson, and Mike Pierrard.  “I am surprised that I am now the current point leader, I figured that Pierrard would finish in the top three.”

The IMCA Stockcars took to the track next, with Rick Mahlberg taking the lead early on.  Mahlberg continued to lead, but with heavy pressure from B.J. Soquet.  Shawn Kilgore caught the top two, and passed Soquet on the high-side.  On the very next lap, Kilgore passed Mahlberg on the outside.  Kilgore pulled away to win his fifth point-race feature win of the season, and sixth overall.  Kilgore was followed by Soquet, Troy Muench, Matt Junio, and Charlie Kroll.  “The car worked real well.  It was nice to increase the point lead with one week to go.” Shawn Kilgore after his feature win.

Rick Johnson led the opening couple of laps of the IMCA Modified feature, before getting loose on the front stretch, which ended up turning the lead over to Scott Boyea.  Boyea continued to be the man to beat through the first half of the race. Jared Siefert got to second, and used the high-line to catch and pass Boyea on lap 11.  Next, Matthias charged to second, and caught Siefert.  He made several attempts at Siefert, but never made the pass.  Siefert went on to win ahead of Matthias, Boyea, Jeremy Jacobs, and Sean Jerovetz.  This was Siefert’s first feature win since the season opener.  When asked what kind of track he set up for Siefert replied, “I setup my car to run the top-side of the track.  I figured everyone else would want to run down low.”

Jarred Vanlannen led his first laps at Thunderhill early on, in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature.  Brandon Peterson grabbed the lead using the high-line.  He continued to lead, until he pushed real hard through turns one and two.  Dave DeGrave took the lead, but was heavily pressured from Eddie Anschutz.  Anschutz shot through the field and passed DeGrave.  Anschutz kept the lead, and soared to his sixth feature win of the season.  Keith Kickbusch, Tom Brumlic, Tony Schlei, and DeGrave followed Anschutz at the line. When asked if being the point leader makes him nervous in the last couple of weeks Anschutz replied, “The anticipation is the worst part.  Once the green flag flies, you just think about the race at hand and how you will get to the front.”

Jeremy Dubois took the lead after a restart on lap 3, and went on to win his second feature in a row in the 4-cylinder class. He beat Greg Banker, Kenny Malcore, Kip Burlo and Tony Everard at the checkers.

Maynard Hegnet beat Don Mahlberg in the Bomber feature race.
