Josh Bauer: From Horses To Horse Power
by Cari Michelfelder
August 30, 2006
How does a man whose life is in the Rodeo become a race car driver? He wakes
up one morning and says “I think I’ll drive a race car today.” Now this
may not work for everyone but it is exactly how Josh Bauer got his start in
racing.
Up until the age of 18 Josh’s life was full of horses and a lot of his
activities were centered around the Rodeo. Until one morning, his father woke
him up and asked him if he wanted to go race. Josh replied “Race what?” He
left his horses, jumped in a race car and has been on fire ever since.
Josh began racing on dirt in the Grand National Division in 1999. He
finished 10th in the points and 2nd in the rookie standings. He then moved
into the Mid-American Series, where he earned 29 feature wins over four years.
Among those wins was a victory at Slinger Nationals.
He is currently racing in his second year in the NASCAR Autozone Elite Series
for GTR Motorsports. This is Josh’s first full season at Slinger Super
Speedway, but he certainly isn’t driving like a rookie. He has one feature
win in his #71 late model. He is sitting fourth in the point standings and is
also leading in the rookie standings.
With only a few races left in the season, Josh Bauer is definitely the man to
keep your eyes on. He has the talent, and thanks to sponsors like Cardinal
Fabricating, Wilkes Plumbing, B & B Engines, and Johnny’s Lounge, he has
the equipment to not only be competitive, but to win.
Josh plans to run the full season at Slinger Super Speedway next year, and he
also hopes to join the Hooters Pro Cup series. “I like racing at Slinger,”
says Bauer, “But I would love to travel and race at a lot of different
tracks.” Look for Bauer to continue his march towards rookie of the year
honors at Slinger as well as strong finishes at all the tracks he races
at.
