Bilderback Returns To Victory Lane At Rockford
By: Kevin Ramsell

Saturday, May 12, 2007 (Loves Park, IL) – Ricky Bilderback has not had a great start to the 2007 season.  But tonight, he may have turned the corner by picking up his first feature win of the season.  George Sparkman, Jon Logan Jr., Michael Bilderback and Jesse Bernhagen also took home feature wins on Windsor Auto Sales night at the races.

Bill Hobson would grab the early lead in the 30-lap main event for the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models.  Bilderback, who started sixth, quickly worked his way to the front.

Bilderback would get past Bob Kahler for second on lap 4 and quickly set his sights on Hobson.  Bilderback would get on the inside of Hobson on lap 7 and the two would battle side-by-side until Bilderback pulled away to the lead on lap 8.

The caution flew on lap 16 when Tim Sargent spun in turn one.  Sonny Schoffen spun to avoid Sargent, but Tim Ellis could not stop in time and spun into Schoffen and Sargent.  All three went to the pits and Sargent was the only one able to return.

The caution flew again on lap 17 when Hobson and Kahler made contact coming out of turn four causing Kahler to spin.  A melee ensued on the front stretch with Nick Beinlich’s car ending up on the top of Nick Shutkas’s hood.  Kahler suffered some heavy damage and was done for the night.

Bilderback would pull away from current point leader Jon Reynolds Jr. to take home his first feature win of the year.  Brett McCoy would come home third with Shutkas returning to finish fourth.  Ryan Miles would round out the top five.

“The car was pretty good and it’s pretty good on a slick track and we had a slick track tonight,” Bilderback stated in victory lane.

Sparkman took home his second Budweiser American Short Tracker feature win of the year.

Zach Rodriguez took the early lead in the 25-lap feature event.  Sparkman, who started fourth, closely followed Rodriguez to the front.  The two would pull away from pole sitter Reid Nuttall.

On lap 3, Sparkman would get on the inside of Rodriguez.  The two would race side-by-side for a lap until Sparkman took over the top spot.

Sparkman would go on to hold off current point leader Tim Melvin en route to his win.  Matt Berger would come home third with BJ Sparkman and Jason Bragg rounding out the top five.

It took two attempts to get the 20-lap Coca-Cola RoadRunner feature underway.  As the field came off of turn four to complete the first lap when Sam Christofano got loose and spun on the front stretch.  This caused a melee behind him and the field had to be reset for a complete re-start.

Curt Nighswonger grabbed the early lead over Ronald Stoltz at the drop of the green flag.  Christofano would challenge for the top spot on lap 4.  On lap 5, he would get past Nighswonger to take over the lead.

Logan moved from his fifth starting spot to up to second by lap 6.  Logan would get on the inside of Christofano to challenge for the lead on lap 7.  Logan would get past Christofano a lap later to take over the top spot.

Logan would cruise on to his second feature win of the season.  Charlie Frisch would finish second.  Alex Papini finished third with Shannon Stoltz and Dan Carlson rounding out the top five.

Bilderback easily sailed to the INEX Legend feature win.

The feature got off to a rough start when polesitter Kyle Jusits drifted up to the outside groove and hit David Townsend.   This sent Townsend sailing into the front stretch wall.  He rode the wall from the flag stand down towards the entrance of turn one.  Jusits went into the turn one wall hard.  Both were able to walk away but were done for the night.

On the re-start, Bilderback would pull away from Hermann Greinig to take the lead.  Greinig would find himself in a battle for second with Brandon Allen and Ross Kenseth.  Allen would take over the second spot on lap 7.

Bilderback would go on to take the win with Allen in second.  Greinig would hold off Kenseth for third.  Cody Townsend would round out the top five.

Bernhagen held off Cody Daul to take home the 12-lap INEX Bandolero feature win.

Bernhagen and Daul started on the front row and put on a great side-by-side battle in the early going of their feature event.  Bernhagen would use take advantage of the higher line and take over the lead on lap 3.

Bernhagen would be challenged by Daul in the late going but would him off for the win.  Brandon Heisler would come home third with Caylie Duncanson and Vern Fagerberg rounding out the top five.

Elizabeth Larson of Beloit, WI won a used car courtesy of Windsor Auto Sales.
