Midwest Enduro Season Opener's Taken By Jeras And Bujak

Love's Park, IL, May 6 - The season opener for the Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series and the Midwest Enduro Small Car Series was action packed as the Series made its way back to the Rockford Speedway for the first time since 1998. The "Stateline Staffing Services 250" for the "Stock Car" division was won by veteran driver Jeff Jeras. The "Stateline Staffing Services 125" for the "Small Car" division was won by Leo Bujak.

Jeras was the overall winner and first in the "A" class over Art Speciale. David Donahue was the winner of the "B" class over Don Wilson. The top three at the line for the Small Cars were Bujak followed by Matt Mangiaracina and Louis Chatroop.

The Midwest Enduro Small Car Series "Stateline Staffing Services 125" started with Roger Schultz setting the early pace. Schultz held the point up to lap 16 when Mangiaracina took over after the two swapped positions for the four prior laps. A large pile up on lap 34 caused a red flag situation as one of the cars lost a tire in the process. Schultz went in the pit area for repairs as many others including one of the pre-race favorites Todd Booker. Mangiaracina held the point up to the 72 lap marker when Bujak was solidly in his rear view mirror. A red flag situation once again occurred on lap 74 closing the field. Bujak used the low groove of the Speedway to his advantage for the remainder of the event to capture the win.

The Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series first event of the season had "Big Al" Kuphal jump from his pole position to get the field rolling for the running of the "Stateline Staffing Services 250". Mike Hart quickly darted out in front of Kuphal and held the point through the first 18 circuits of the 250 lap event. Jeras was on Hart's rear bumper at this point and took over by lap 20. Hart's day ended on lap 32 as he was involved with several cars on the backstretch and careened off the wall suffering major damage. At the 50 lap marker the top five were Jeras followed by Speciale, Rick Cregger, Tom Barnharst and Mike Herwald.

Jeras continued to set a fast pace and the closest to keep up with him was Speciale. After the first of two mandatory fuel stops on lap 83, Speciale moved out front to a slight advantage as the field was once again set to green flag action. Speciale held the point through lap 105 and then Jeras once again took off from the rest of the field. The field was slowed for a red flag on lap 141 when David Dominguez performed a soft roll landing back on his tires only to land on one of the corner tire markers. Dominguez was not injured and returned later back in the event. As the field was slowed for the second fuel stop on lap 166, Jeras was shown as the leader followed by Speciale, Donahue, Mike Kasperek and Ryan Nuti.

Shortly after the stop for the last segment of the race, Jeff Hutchison broke an axle going in to turn one of the 1/4 mile paved oval and spun in heavy traffic on lap 172. Hutchison was not injured but was through for the day. Jeras triumphed the rest of the way nearly lapping the entire field as he finished only two seconds behind Speciale to perform the task. At the line it was Jeras followed by Speciale, Kasperek, Nuti and Donahue to round out the top five.

The next event for the Midwest Enduro Stock car and Small Car Series is set for Sunday June 10 at the Milwaukee Mile (West Allis, WI). For further details turn to the Series website at www.midwestenduro.com or call (262)895-6682 from 6pm. - 9 pm. or leave a message.
