Spring Classic Still On For This Weekend
By: Kevin Ramsell

Wednesday, April 11, 2007 (Loves Park, IL) – The old adage is “April Showers” but today the Rock Valley Area experienced “April Snow.”  Even though Mother Nature tried to put a stop to this weekend’s 30th Annual Spring Classic, she brought the weather a few days to early.

Rockford Speedway officials are still working overtime to prepare for this weekend’s 30th Annual Spring Classic Weekend.  “For some reason, good old Ma Nature always wants to try to do something to stop this event from going on,” commented Gregg McKarns, Rockford Speedway General Manager.  “But, this time I think her timing is off and the forecast is now starting to work in our favor to where we are feeling confident that we will get everything going on schedule.”

The two-day event will mark the official start of the 60th Anniversary season at the Rockford Speedway.  The weekend is scheduled to get underway on Friday, April 13th with practice for all Spring Classic divisions from 5-9 p.m.

Practice will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday for the Wisconsin Challenge Series, Mid-American Series and the Hornet vs. Bandit Challenge cars.  Qualifying will start at 3:30 p.m. with the racing action getting underway at 6:06 p.m.  The evening will be highlighted with 60-lap feature for the Mid-American Series and the inaugural 25-lap Hornet vs. Bandit Challenge event for 4-cylinder cars.

Sunday’s activities will get underway at 11:15 a.m. with Big 8 Series qualifying.  Fans are encouraged to arrive early to meet the drivers of the Wisconsin Challenge Series in the Budweiser Pavilion at 11:45 a.m.  The racing action will get underway at 1:00 p.m.  The Wisconsin Challenge Series will highlight the afternoon of racing with a 150-lap feature event.  The Big 8 Series will also kick off their third season with a 58-lap feature.

Advance tickets are on sale now at the track office.  For more information, please call the track office at (815) 633-1500 or please visit the track’s website at www.rockfordspeedway.com
