Rockford Speedway Is A "NASCAR Home Track"
By: Kevin Ramsell

Tuesday, March 06, 2007 (Loves Park, IL) – Rockford Speedway’s 60th Anniversary season of racing will be a reminder that many fans, officials and drivers can call the historic high banked quarter-mile their “home track.”  This year, NASCAR has started an advertising campaign to help celebrate local racing by creating its “NASCAR Home Track” program.

With the use of Greg Biffle, Elliot Sadler and Carl Edwards, NASCAR’s new advertising campaign will remind fans that it’s the local tracks to where many NASCAR stars got their start.

“Running under the lights at a short track,” Biffle stated, “that feels like home.”

“It’s the grassroots of NASCAR,” Sadler said.  “A lot of drivers in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series have a lot of great memories and a lot great stories etched in their mind that started right here on the short tracks.”

Rockford Speedway has been an active participant of helping many of NASCAR’s stars of today.  Travis Kvapil, the 2003 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, got his start racing at the famous oval located just north of Rockford, IL.  He claimed the American Short Tracker division championship in 1994.

Chad Knaus, the championship crew chief for Jimmie Johnson, helped his father John capture his seven late model championships.  And John Darby, NASCAR Nextel Cup Competition Director, gained his experience doing the same job every Saturday night at the famous oval.

“The history that comes from this speedway is phenomenal,” Gregg McKarns, Rockford Speedway General Manager stated.  “The history alone is a great example of what NASCAR is trying to show with their new advertising campaign.  We are proud to be known as a ‘NASCAR Home Track.’”

NASCAR has created a “Home Track Locator” at nascar.com.  Fans can simply click on the “Home Tracks” under NASCAR Local Racing link.  The feature allows fans to simply type in their zip code and find out more about the NASCAR Home Track in their local area.
