Thursday, November 02, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Rockford Speedway officials have announced that the 42nd Annual Chicago International Trucks National Short Track Championships will take place on September 28-30, 2007.  This will be one of the showcase events during the 60th season of racing at the famed quarter-mile oval.

The National Short Track Championships started in 1966 when Hugh Deery and Bill Ernest came up with the idea of having a fall racing event that invited all drivers from area racetracks to come and compete together at one event.  Dick Trickle was the first winner of the event and has won two other championships.  Joe Shear holds the record with eight championships.

Other famous competitors that have competed include: Mark Martin (1977 champion), Steve Carlson (seven-time champion), Eddie Hoffman (three-time champion), Ramo Scott (1969 champion), Butch Miller (1991 champion), Greg Biffle, Kyle Petty, Matt Kenseth, and Travis Kvapil.

The National Short Track Championships has become known as “One Great Racing Weekend.”  The divisions competing at the 2007 event will be announced at a later date.
