Senerchia Defends Mid-Am NSTC
By: Kevin Ramsell
Sunday, September 24, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – John Senerchia captured his
second straight NSTC feature win at the Rockford Speedway. The
Mid-American Series raced on the final day of the 41st Annual Chicago
International Trucks National Short Track Championships at the Rockford
Speedway.
Jake Finney took the early lead in Coca-Cola 75-lap feature event.
Finney held on to the lead until Lyle Nowak moved from his fifth starting spot
to take the lead on lap 31.
George Schultz, currently second in Mid-American points, made contact with
Bill Neering on the front stretch on lap 43. Schultz spun going into
turn one. He would be able to re-join the field a couple of laps down.
Current point leader, James Swan ran into his own problem on lap 44 when he
was collected in a melee as a result of Mike Skaja spin in turns three and
four. He was able to return at the tail of the field after repairs in
the pits.
Nowak held on to the lead until 61 when John Senerchia, who had a flat tire
earlier in the race, came through the field and took over the top spot.
Josh Nelms followed Senerchia to take over second.
With 8 laps to go, Neering got together with Swan going into turn one.
Both hit the outside wall, with Neering taking almost a head on shot.
Neering got the wind knocked out of him but was able to walk away.
Senerchia continued with the lead at the re-start with Nelms trying to find a
way to get around him.
At the finish, it was Senerchia defending his NSTC Mid-American Series
championship with Nelms coming home second. Bill Pretzel would finish
third with Nowak holding on to fourth with Bobby Gutknecht rounding out the
top five.
Swan did take home the Nason Landscaping “Faster than a Speeding Bullet”
fast time award.
The Mid-American Series will compete next weekend at the Victor Ford Fall
Classic at the Lake Geneva Raceway.
