Bilderback Takes Overall Big 8 Series Win At NSTC
By: Kevin Ramsell
Sunday, September 24, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – It took two days, but it got
completed. Mother Nature got involved in the first of two 75-lap feature
events for the Big 8 Series to where it had to be completed on Sunday
morning. Mike Beyer and Ryan Carlson captured the wins, while Ricky
Bilderback collected his second straight overall win.
Beyer took home the first 75-lap feature after a 12 hour delay.
The first WQRF Fox 39 75-lap feature started on Saturday night with Tim Noble
and George Bohn battling side-by-side for the lead. Bohn would take lead
on lap 2. Beyer would move from his fourth starting spot to challenge
Bohn for the lead on 10. Beyer would get the top spot.
The first caution flew on lap 12 when Ryan Carlson spun in turns one and two
and that caused a melee behind him. During the caution, Mother
Nature opened up the skies and officials threw a red flag on the race until
Sunday morning.
Greg Oliver flew the green flag at 10:04 a.m. with Beyer in
control.
Beyer would take an easy Sunday morning drive to the checkered flag. But
behind him is where the race was as positions two through five were contested
throughout the race. At the finish it was Ricky Bilderback in second
with current Big 8 Series point leader Jeremy Miller in third. Jon
Reynolds Jr. would finish fourth and Bohn rounded out the top five.
Carlson took home the second Stanley Steemer 75-lap feature.
Jake Gille took the early lead in the second feature event. Carlson
started fourth and patiently worked his way to second. On lap 16, he got
on the inside of Gille to take over the top spot.
Carlson would pull away from Gille while he battled to hold his position from
Bob Kahler, Jerry Gille and Bilderback. On lap 30, Jake Gille got
freight trained by the three and fell back to fifth.
The caution would fly on lap 52 due to fluid leaking from Kahler’s
car. Kahler would have to retire from the event. The second
caution flew on the re-start when Kris Kelly spun coming out of turn four.
On the re-start, Carlson would watch a spirited battle happen behind him
between Bilderback and Jerry Gille. The two would trade positions while
Carlson stayed out front.
The final caution flew on lap 56 when Mark English made hard contact with the
turn three wall. He was able to walk away.
Carlson would stay out front while Bilderback and Gille kept battling for
position behind him.
At the checkers, it was Carlson with the win with Gille taking home
second. Bilderback would take home third. Jake Gille and Miller
would round out the top five.
Bilderback’s second and third place finish gave him the overall win.
This is second Big 8 Series win for Bilderback. He was the overall
winner last week at Jefferson.
The Big 8 Series will be in action next week at Final Victor Ford Fall Classic
at the Lake Geneva Raceway. Last year, Rick Corso picked up his first
Big 8 Series win at the famed facility and he will be back to defend his 2005
win.
