ARCA Driver Dexter Bean To Compete At NSTC
By: Kevin Ramsell
Friday, September 15, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) - Coming off the heels of his
second fourth place finish of the year at the Chicagoland Speedway, ARCA
driver Dexter Bean will make his fourth consecutive appearance at the 41st
Annual Chicago International Trucks National Short Track Championships at the
Rockford Speedway on September 22-24.
In his first full season in ARCA competition, Bean has scored 2 top-five and 3
top-ten finishes. His fourth place finish at Chicago tied his best
overall finish of the year. Earlier this year, he took a fourth place
finish at the second ARCA Pocono race.
Bean made his first appearance at NSTC in 2003 where he scored a third place
finish in the Northern Series division. “We had a top-five car the
first time we ran there and have had some bad luck since,” the Westby, WI
native recently stated. “We were one of the fastest cars there in the
spring with the Wisconsin Challenge Series and definitely want to come back
for the CRA Super Series race.”
Bean did think about running double duty at this year’s NSTC but he will let
his longtime friend, Tony Bagstad, compete in the Big 8 Series event on
Saturday night. “We are going to run the CRA Super Series and I am
going to let Tony Bagstad run our Big 8 Series car,” Bean stated.
“He didn’t run at La Crosse this year so he could help us out.”
Bean easily lists Rockford as one of the tracks that has helped his racing
career. “It’s a good learning experience and it’s close racing and
yeah you get together with people from time to time but that is what short
track racing is all about,” Bean stated.
When asked about why coming back to compete at NSTC. Bean simply stated,
“Definitely love it!!! Short track racing, the bumping and grinding,
it’s the reason I love racing.”
The young driver has had a great learning experience running on short tracks
and big tracks like Daytona and Talladega. When comparing Rockford to
Talladega, Bean says that Rockford is more challenging. “I would say
the quarter-mile,” Bean replied. “It’s a lot more demanding on the
drivers. Talladega is all about the motor and when you get to Rockford
it’s all about the driver.”
The 41st Annual Chicago International Trucks National Short Track Championship
will take place over 3 days of racing with 10 divisions and 689 laps of
feature racing action. It will be “One Great Racing
Weekend!!!”
