Big Dawg Highlights The 2006 Night Of Thrills At Rockford
By: Kevin Ramsell
Saturday, September 09, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Doug Noelke wowed the huge
crowd on hand with his Big Dawg Monster Truck at the annual Budweiser Night of
Thrills at the Rockford Speedway. The driver from Union, MO put on a
great freestyle exhibition by crushing cars and doing his patented pop wheelie
that brought the crowd to their feet.
The Rockford Speedway Stanley Steamer Hornets and Figure 8 division showed off
a great night of racing with Roger Schultz and Pat Smith taking home feature
wins.
Schultz had a great time at the Night of Thrills. He captured the
RoadRunner Challenge and also captured the 13-lap Hornet Swarm.
Mark Vicencio took the early lead in the event. While he was battling
through lap traffic, Schultz took advantage of the traffic and got by him with
three laps to go.
Schultz would pull away to take the win in front of a packed house.
Smith took the lead on lap two and held off Chris Gantz to win the Figure 8
feature. Robert Stoltz came home third.
The fans in attendance also had the opportunity to participate in the
evening’s activities by participating in the Spectacular Drags and Smokey
Burnout Championship.
Gilberto Gonzalez of Davis Junction beat Gary Oscarson to win the Spectacular
Drags. And he then he came back and won the Smoking Burnout
Championship.
Fans were also entertained with a California Style Drifting exhibition, a
Figure 8 Train Race that was won by Gary Oscarson and Scott Luck, and Diesel
Divas Bus Race won by Sabrina Castillo.
The teams of Mark Bielefeldt, Nick Lasher, and Roger Schultz won the Stock Car
Roller Derby.
Rich Schinderling got the crowd on their feet when he rolled his Monte Carlo 4
˝ times and he was able to walk away after that spectacular roll.
Gary Oscarson thrilled the fans with a spectacular Camper Trailer Jump.
The wild evening ended with a Figure 8 School Bus race with Charlie Costello
taking the win.
Highlights of the Night of Thrills will be shown in the fall on Speed
Channel’s On the Edge program.
There will be no racing action next weekend at the Rockford Speedway as it
prepares for the 41st Annual Chicago International Trucks National Short Track
Championships on September 22-24. Ten divisions will be competing over
three days with 689 laps of feature racing along with qualifying, qualifying
races, and last chance races. The highlight will be on Sunday, September
24 as the CRA Super Series will compete in a 200-lap main event. This
will be “One Great Racing Weekend.”
